IT’S HERE! MILIEU HAS ARRIVED!

The Cover:  Milieu’s Premier Issue  “A World of Change”

“A World of Change” indeed – and that is exactly what the newly published Milieu is offering.  Milieu is the brainchild of Pamela Pierce, the uber-talented interior designer from Houston, Texas.   The magazine was borne from a dream of Pierce’s to bring together well established designers and, most important, newly discovered talent.   Pierce has aimed high – and it shows.  The magazine’s paper is heavy and thick and luxurious, the photography is lush and many times a picture is spread over out two full pages. The feature stories are long and in depth.   The interiors are sophisticated, but with an intriguing edge.   Many houses shown in the first issue are filled with riotous color, while the quieter palettes shown highlight textures and art work and accessories.

The editorial pages are filled with places to visit, interesting people to meet and decorative things to discover.  The story on chic lamps was a personal favorite!

And, on the last page, Milieu was gracious enough to feature the Cote de Texas blog!  Recently, the Skirted Roundtable interviewed The Prince of Chintz, Mario Buatta, in anticipation of his new design book which will be released this October.

A huge thank you to Milieu for featuring Cote de Texas & The Skirted Roundtable.

  3. I have been waiting for months and just today realized that this was the magic month of publication. I can't wait to receive my first copy.
I also cannot wait to hear the interview with the much sought after, Prince of Chintz. I am truly ready for a refresher course in the world of chintz and his particular use of Colfax and Fowler and the influence that John Fowler had upon his design point of view. This should be great fun. Hope Megan doesn't try to impose her great expertise (cough cough) upon the wonderful Mr. Buatta. I saw another interview with Mario recently on line and he comes across as a very approachable and likeable man. Joni, do not try to talk this man into white slipcovers and seagrass because "it ain't going to happen". So glad you were able to get this icon of American design.

Hah! We all know what that sounds like. ("Her great expertise," examples of which we never, ever see...)

  5. Hi Joni, I am curious do you know what those chairs are on the fifth photograph? I have one in my shop for sale. I was told at the auction house it was African but later a shopper who seemed to know about these chairs said it was mexican. Mine is an antique with the animal hide and hand stitching and its quite amazing~until now I had never seen one like it! Thanks for telling us about Mileu, I love Pamela Pierce!!

    1. They're equipale chairs and your shopper is correct, they are Mexican and quite common in the Southwest.

  8. GREAT to see a NEW magazine coming out with NEW ideas! I gave up on the old standards who were just re-posting photos I have seen over and over. These photos are refreshing to view and can't wait to read the magazine! This is not my style, but there is always something to learn from highly creative people!

  9. Joni, who designed the room with the lamps, and all the wonderful pattern, and the plates on the wall, and the comfy furniture? I love it! I am so sick of all the white and gray!

  11. I am still waiting for my issue, I keep re-checking my old emails to confirm my subscription, if it doesn't come soon than I am going to have to buy it at Krogers! Last week after a particulary crummy day at the office I came home to find the Vamp's book waiting on my doorstep and just curled up in bed with a healthy glass of wine.

  19. Joni I have tried to leave comments a few times on your incredible blog to thank you for doing such an amazing and thoroughal job on all of your research. You are so informative and so forthcoming with all of your sources. Thank you so much. It doesn't seem like my comments have ever gotten posted for some reason. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.
But I did want to ask you a few questions. We are coming to Houston in October to go to Antique Week. We are really excited to do some antique shopping. We will be staying in Houston 3 nights.i was wondering if you could tell me some of the standout antiques stores in your beautiful city? There are just so many we would never have time to get to all of them.
I would love it if you could take a minute to give me your ideas. Thanks so much.one of the main stops will be to see Lone Ranger ( per your recommendation)
    Hope this message goes through

  22. Joni, thank you so much for responding. We are coming to Texas the week Jeff is in for the show. I have contacted him via email. We are building our dream french inspired home. Still arguing about french provincial or french country. And I am so excited to get some antique pieces for the new house. Although we are downsizing I do want to get rid of some of the awful 80's and 90's pieces I have. Also looking into having some of them redone. Thanks again for your input. I so love all of your posts and your description of each vignette is spot on. You have a remarkable eye for detail.

  23. For one who does not asspire to such grand interiors but who loves to glen a small tid bid from this blog and today this mag. I hate going three places and not finding things promoted on blogs. I applaud your listing of states available and stores!! Mine will be coming home soon.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I ordered mine the first day you told us about it. I hope it comes soon! I see Greef got hers in Belgium, but mine has not arrived yet in NJ!!!! I feel like a kid waiting for Santa LOL

    ReplyDelete
  25. I too ordered mine after reading your initial post. Still not here yet...oh well! Anyway--that seagrass rug is way too short for the dining room. Even I know that!! Nonetheless, i am constantly checking my mailbox in anticipation of my first issue. I love Pam Pierce's new look per Veranda, so I cannot wait to see this first issue. Thanks to Joni, I even know about it!!

  26. Love those lamps, too. Great work! I'm always admiring your attention to detail in the linens, wall art, and rugs.

  28. I have been to Kroger on Buffalo Speedway, HEB on Buffalo Speedway, Central Market, 2 different Barnes & Nobles AND 2 different Targets, and none of them has any copies of Milieu, nor have they heard of it. I have been trying for the last week to find it on the shelf and had no luck. When will it actually be on newsstands? I'm anxious to read it! It looks beautiful!

  29. I subscribed months ago to Milieu and am very disappointed with their distribution method. Obviously, marketing the magazine to the retail points of sale such as Barnes & Noble, HEB, Target, et. al. trumps USPS mail delivery subscription services to those of us who dared to subscribe. Curious, Joni ~ did you receive your premier copy via mail or purchased or complimentary from Ms. Pierce? Obviously, many of us who subscribed will continue to be at the bottom of the list to receive our paid subscription. Pierce & Company should endeavor to correct the flawed subscription system.
