I started reading Diana Gabaldon's books in 1995 and love the entire series. It's certainly a shame when there is no money for a new roof or basic repairs, but these very old stately homes look best with some authentic wear and tear. Give me some patchy fading on red silk walls over everything new and garish (althorp) anyday.
