The newest edition of one of my favorite magazines “Antique Shops & Designers” is now available on their web site. I know a lot of readers aren’t in the areas where this magazine is sold, so I like to post it when it goes online. The magazine was a little late going online with this issue, but it’s here now and filled with wonderful stories, photographs and beautiful ads, as usual. To read the magazine, go HERE.
One of my favorite stories this issue is by Leslie Sinclair of Segreto. She writes about the color Blaygeen, which is a combination of blue, gray, and green! Isn’t it a gorgeous color? And that bathroom!!! To die for, it was designed by Cindy Witmer. BTW, Leslie’s book is still available for sale on the left side of my blog – at top. It’s one of my favorite design books – ever!!
Another favorite story is about Marilyn Phillips’ house. If the name sounds familiar – it’s because she is the daughter-in-law of famous interior designer and author Betty Lou Phillips. Marilyn is also a very successful interior designer living in Houston. I am crazy about that rug by Stark!! So pretty!! Check out Phillips’ web site HERE to see her beautiful portfolio.
The cover story is about Chateau de Deulin - a castle located in Belgium. Here in the drawing room, notice the gorgeous wallpaper, and the threadbare rug. So beautiful! I love when rugs are worn like that. And I love the cane settee. Beautiful interiors – especially for a castle which sometimes aren’t always decorated with great style.
There is a large spread on Houston interior designer Michael Dale’s eclectic house. It has the most gorgeous steel windows. Notice the arched steel window in the entry hall which is lined up with the arch that leads into the living room. The house is an L-shape that wraps around a courtyard.
Notice the steel door on the left that opens onto the gravel covered courtyard at Michael Dale’s Houston house. Instead of a back yard, the house wraps around this central courtyard. So pretty!
And as usual, I love the advertisements in Antique Shops & Designers! They are as beautiful as the stories. This one by Julie Blailock really caught my eye.

The other day I received an early Valentine’s Day present from LoveFeast Shop – wrapped in blue and red ribbons:
Inside the package with the blue ribbon were two darling velvet pumpkins – in two colors turquoise/lagoon, one large, one smaller. These pumpkins are heart shaped, making them the perfect Valentine’s Day present for that special someone!
It totally hit me that these would make such a great pin cushion too! I’m going to take a set up to my closet for all the straight pins that have no home.
The second box with the red ribbon contained two heart shaped pumpkins that were cherry/coral. The packaging is so cute with the matching color coordinated cards. Called the “2013 Limited Edition HeartGram Set,” the custom designed postcards are by artist Annie Barnett of Be Small Studio.
As usual, the heart shaped pumpkins come in different colors, like these white ones.
The Valentine’s Day special comes wrapped in a decorative box ready for giving. You can order it in different configurations of one large or one large-one small heart shaped pumpkin.

So glad to know about this magazine. I would never have known about it if you hadn't shared it! Trust me! I don't get out much with my own shop! Once again, your blog post is amazing! You set the bar very high for those of us out here in blog land but I'm truly grateful for that! I'm never disappointed! Maybe one day we can at least advertise in it!
ReplyDeletePlease show castles inappropriately decorated. So far I have yet to see one. The picture you showed is lovely, but anyone who owns or lives in a castle can well afford to decorate. Because you are so great at research, I am eager to see what you come up with. Perhaps a title could be: "The Undecorated Castle" or" What Not To Do When Owning A Castle", or" How I Would Decorate If I Owned A Castle". I have traveled extensively and visited a number of castles and would be more than willing and exceedingly happy to have its curator bequeath me the contents of any of them.
ReplyDeleteLove this magazine...it never disappoints and I love the heart pumpkins....they are so cute!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images Joni, and a great assortment of articles. I also adore Love Feast!

2013 Artists Series
Joni - the other day I was shocked to discover a copy of Antique Shops and Designers at my local Chapters store (like your Barnes & Noble, I think). Was surprised to see it in Calgary. I took a quick look for your name but didn't see any articles by you! Photos looked nice but didn't buy it. I should have, as I hope they keep stocking it! :)

Just scrolled through the first few pages again and saw your ad! Lovely! :)
DeleteThe velvet pumpkins are truly horrible. I wish you would stop pushing them.
ReplyDeleteIMO, the pumpkins are not truly horrible, but they are odd. The idea of touching something made of a soft, pretty fabric only to bump into the hard, prickly stem, is disconcerting. Hope Love Feast sells a lot of them right away because it won't be long before people realise they are just kitsch.
DeleteOn the other, hand, I think the products offered by "Gabby", one of your other sponsors, are wonderful. I visited their showroom at the Atlanta Design Center recently. Not only are their prices reasonable, but their quality is very good. Their sales rep / manager was both pleasant and helpful. I live in the Los Angeles area. They were willing to drop-ship my order from L.A to save me shipping costs.
You need to find another blog to follow because obviously you think your taste is the only one that matters. From the content of Joni's blog anyone can see that she spends hours and sometimes days researching her material. She did not take on sponsors in the beginning. I am happy to see sponsors. We don't all have to like all the products, but show some respect for the people who do like it. Today's blogpost had several interesting topics not just velvet pumpkins. Also the giveaways are always great from the sponsors to introduce you to their line. You are not forced to participate! What have YOU done lately to make the world a better place?
DeleteI think Charlotte's remarks were balanced in that she gave high marks to "GABBY" who is also a sponsor on the blog. I also agree with Charlotte and anon above that we have seen a bit much of the pumpkin decor for a while. Were these people not sponsors, I seriously doubt that Joni would put these contrived accessories in her home. They seriously are silly and one has to wonder who would want to feature them in a beautifully appointed decor.
DeleteLove this magazine and so honored to write for it!! You are so sweet to feature my article!! Thanks!! xo Leslie
ReplyDeleteI, too, love that Stark rug and "lagoon" is just my favourite colour. Michael Dale's courtyard is divine also. Unfortunately the light we have here prevents me from going for bleygreen (or anything else with a grey tone) but since blue/green is ok I am not complaining!! Being across the pond, I am always thrilled to hear of magazines that go online - thanks Joni :-) x
ReplyDeleteI just love this magazine and look forward to each issue. Like you I love the ads they're so glam just like the stories. Your heart pumpkins are wonderful and so clever
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekkend!!

I love this magazine! And now I can't get the word "Blaygeen" out of my head. I'm such a fan of your Ask Miss Cote de Texas series, but for some reason I just can't seem to find the email address to send the questions. Could you paleeez put Contact info for Dummies on your side bar?
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight to run across photos of Michael Dale's house! He did my very first apartment and then my first house way, way, way back in the 70s when we were both young (and my budget was tiny!)and getting established in our respective careers. The test of a great designer: with the exception of one lamp, I am still using (and loving) every single piece of furniture and accessory Michael found/ordered, etc.! It's been more than 30 years since I lived in Houston, what a joy to see that Michael's "eye" has only gotten better and better in the intervening years -- his work reminded me of Billy Baldwin then and now looking at these current images. Wonderful!
