Just a quick note to tell everyone that we survived intact! We're fine! I'm writing a longer post and will hopefully get it online in just a little bit.
Thank you, everyone, for all your prayers and thoughts and well wishes. Your prayers worked, that is for sure! I can't thank you enough.
Joni
Soooooo good to finally hear from you. Thank God our prayers for you were heard. There are horror tales coming out of Houston. Glad you're not part of it. Also, I assume your beloved tree made it.

We're toasting you t'night with a good Napa Cab. So good to hear your loud and proud. Ginny
ReplyDeleteI've been checking your blog off and on all day to see if you were able to post at all (not that it's your priority at all) but I have been watching the weather channel and have seen Houston and WOW! My girlfriend finally got in touch with me and although things are ugly, her house is okay (one small leak) and her children are okay too. She's running on generators and is thankful that they came through with very little damage. So happy to hear that you came through well too. What a scary night for sure!
ReplyDeleteHere in Chicagoland we're flooding but nothing like you all. I will continue to pray that all gets back to normal quickly.
Just another faithful reader checking in on you, thanks for letting us know you're ok.
ReplyDeleteJoni,
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you are alright. I've been up north in Michigan babysitting the Grand's and there was no computer access since Dana had her laptop with here. I was so worried about you and am so happy that you are well.
Hugs and best wishes,
Sue
My niece works at the flight museum in Galveston and they flew her and her dog out on a B29, that they were also saving, and took her to within an hour of her parents in Denton. She lives one block off the coast so there's not a lot of hope there. But she's safe with her family.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it through and you are OK! Try to stay cool now until the power is back!
ReplyDeleteHI! Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I just came out to my car to plug in the computer and see what's going on in blogland. I can not express how much your kind thoughts and prayers meant to me. The bloggers in Houston were keeping in touch with each other last night -- it's such a wonderful community that I am so proud to be a part of with all of you! Just amazing - the power of the internet. Thank you so much, so very very much! But - gosh, I'm SOOO bored!!!!! no lights, no tv really - just local, no ac, so boring! I'll try to send emails to you when the power comes back on. again, Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteJust thinking about you and checked in to see if you're doing okay. Glad to hear you survived intact! Had to laugh at all those cold cuts and cheese that were going to keep you from starving after all the power was out.
ReplyDeleteWe've been glued to the hurricane coverage on TV and praying for all of you in the path of the storm! -Julia :-)
Only you could get bored during a hurricane. That's what I love about you. Blog long soon!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you -- hope that your husband is feeling better too after his bout with a migrane! DH and I spent the evening at a local English pub -- fish and chips and LOTS of rain here in Dallas! Just a steady downpour!
ReplyDeleteCheers! Jan at Rosemary Cottage
And we continue to pray. God bless and we are so thankful that you are okay. As one of your most faithful readers, I am wishing all of Texas a very quick recovery.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it! Our thoughts are with you all.
ReplyDeleteJoni, I've been thinking of you all day and wondering how you fared. At about 8:30 a.m. today the weather channel was saying the eye was in Houston....I'm thankful you are okay!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Judy
Hi Joni
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear you are well!
Joni,
ReplyDeleteWonderful news! I was glued to the TV with such trepidation all evening.
I re-read your post from a while back on historic Galveston, what a painfully beautiful piece of history.
I will be watching for more updates, as you and your family begin to return to life as it should be.
~Treacy
Oh- and I totally empathize with you on the whole Starbucks thing....that is exactly how I feel about my Keurig Coffee maker. I would be crazed without it!
I was so relieved when I got home this evening and saw you had posted Joni. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

ReplyDeleteTell Hurricane Man you'd like a shiny new generator for a birthday present ha ha! I already asked Tangoman for one!
Love you and glad you guys are okay.
The power of communication is so wonderful in this country. We can keep in touch by Blogging and CNN is right on the spot to keep us informed, but when nature "happens" we have no control. I wish I could beam myself over to Houston and help out. Thank heavens you are through the worst of it and I hope things can get back to normal soon for you!!
ReplyDeleteyour a trooper! I hope all will be well soon
ReplyDeleteJoni, any word on your Galveston friends and their houses?
ReplyDeleteLooking at the pix on the NYTimes web site. Hope that oak tree held!
ReplyDeleteThis is tornado country and you can't really prepare for them. You just lay down in a ditch when you hear the sound of a train coming (that's what they sound like). But I think sitting and waiting for a storm that's rolling in has got to be much, much worse.
Oh, and love that powder room!
Thank goodness you are fine! Pretty Scary!
ReplyDeleteYEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteJoni - have been thinking about you and wondering if you were flooded or wind-damaged or has lost your power. Relieved to hear you are all okay. xo xo Terri
ReplyDeleteTake care, Joni!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are ok!! (and still up and blogging ;)
ReplyDeleteEmily
Joni, we are so glad that you have come safely through this devastation. I am sure that the you will not have come away from this uneffected though. Just looking at the pictures on t.v. makes your heart go out to all who have lost their homes or loved ones. God Bless Joni as your home town goes through this time. Hayley
ReplyDeleteWe were wondering! Glad to hear your safe.
ReplyDeleteKarla & Karrie
So happy to hear that you and your family are safe, girl!.......I have been praying for all of you!

Patricia

ReplyDeleteThinking about you and missing your constant presence on e-mail and the internet! Glad all is well, or as well as can be expected.
ReplyDeleteJoni! I have been thinking about you and praying for you all weekend. I am so glad you are safe! I was just telling someone here that you were probably going crazy with the power outages! No fun, but just happy you are ok.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear your ok. I hope to see your next post soon. Take care,
ReplyDeleteLena
Thinking of you J dear, and looking forward to seeing you back on line. The US weather seems a little unreal out here in the Sahara desert.

Just saw the article in Better Homes and Gardens. Bet your blog is really going to get busy now. Good luck with any messy cleanup. We had rain and wind in Dallas but not nearly what they predicted. (as usual)
ReplyDeleteI am sooo glad to have you writing, I been concerned. Great to know you are intact and with such a positive attitude. My days wouln't be the same without your inspiring words, and your wonderful blog. God bless you Joni.

ReplyDeleteso so good to see your post and that you are ok.
ReplyDeleteI thought about you all weekend, and I'm glad you hear you are ok!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to know you're ok! Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all the people in Ike's wake.
ReplyDeleteHey, I was thinking of you today and just stopped by to see, if you are able to post. Thank you for taking your time for a quick note and letting everybody know that you are okay.
ReplyDeleteToday I read in the news that even Europe is influenced by Ike. So far we have no wind, but it is freezing cold.
Good luck! Until soon. Take care!
So glad your are okay... and on another note, Better Homes and Gardens just arrived in the mail today. Congratulations!! The house and you look fabulous! Well done!
ReplyDeleteJoni, just saw the BHG and you look wonderful! ( so does the house). Enjoyed it so much. Hope you are back with power soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope hear from you again, soon!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you and your family are alright!
ReplyDeleteIt is great to read you are fine .
ReplyDeleteWe are waiting for you !
Glad you all are fine!
ReplyDeleteIs there any word on that beautiful Bolivar house you featured in July?
ReplyDeleteJoni, If you get out, drive by the house on Reba that you featured a few weeks ago. They don't have power but they have opened up their windows and everything looks so lovely. It would be a great picture for your blog. I'm a neighbor on Reba but I don't know them personally.
ReplyDeleteJoni...
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know that you and your loved ones made it...a little drenched & soggy, but well & safe.
San Antonio has been pretty busy of late, Dolly, Gustov & now Ike, many evacuated to S.A. & we're trying our best to help accomidate...but wish the rest of the country would help the way they did w/Katrina....it's getting a bit a tight & frustations even tighter.
It might be a long wait...be patient, the calvary is on its way. :>)
I drove by Sally Wheat's house and her husband said their beach house escaped damage - their neighborhood in Boliver is doing fine. Hard to believe after seeing the pictures from Boliver, but hopefully since they are all new houses- they were built with good hurricane protection. So glad for them! Haven't heard about Shirley and Kirby's house, but knowing that it's been there for over 100 years, I'll bet it made it too. Still no power, nothing. So boring. Back in my car again, thankful for the car battery. And I'm soooo thankful for the ATT internet card which I highly recommend getting - it's a lifesaver as Comcast is down to all but 5% of its customers. Unreal. Tomorrow is Wed - this started on Friday - and still, it's like a disaster zone. Ben went to his office and took a laptop to charge it up so I may have a couple of hours online tonight! yippee!!! Thanks again so much for all your prayers and thoughts. They mean the world to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ReplyDeleteJoni,
ReplyDeleteJust checking in again and glad to see your post. You are in all of our prayers.
Lots of love coming your way,
Sue
Joni, we're all so thankful you are okay. What a terrible mess there in Texas...my heart goes out to everyone.
ReplyDeleteI picked up the BH&G mag today in Wally World...saving it for tonight after my bath to read in bed!
Hugs!
Judy
Just thinking about you! Hope you have your power back soon....we loose ours all the time so I know it is the pits to say the least!!! I can only imagine the withdrawls you must be having by now ;o)
ReplyDelete~Des
Wow...5 days is a long time...Hope it is not too hot, and horrible.
ReplyDeleteSooooo glad you made it unscathed and that friends and family did too.
Keep up your great (albeit bored) attitude!
Thinking of you!

ReplyDeleteI was so happy to hear from you this week...I could just imagine you ticky tapping away on the lap top in the car. I will keep a gfood thought that you have power soon. Galveston was such a gorgeous place...it is so sad.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad and your family you are safe and that your lovely home is as well.

HI Joni,
ReplyDeleteI've been off the radar for fashion week, and just checked your blog. So glad to hear that all is well. My prayers are with you.
Joni,
ReplyDeleteCan't you just feel all the love?
Exciting to see you in this month's BH&G!
ReplyDeleteSo good to read that you are ok!
ReplyDeleteYAY ! I READ ON CNN.COM THAT HALF OF THE STARBUCKS HAVE RE-OPENED IN HOUSTON !! THINKIN ABOUT YOU !
ReplyDeleteJoni, I cannot BELIEVE you are still without power! Hoping and praying you get electricity soon.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the BH&G feature! I asked my parents to hold onto a copy for me for when I visit over Christmas.
Sending you good thoughts from across the pond :-)
Joni,
ReplyDeleteI feel for you. Going for days, without everyday conveniences is so trying. Several summers ago, we had 100+ mph straight line winds rip through our city, and although we only went for a few days without power, most areas suffered for almost 3 weeks.
Your sense of humor will surely get you through! I hope you are journaling by candle light, I am looking forward to reading all about your experience.
~Treacy
thank goodness.....
ReplyDeleteglad to see you are up and running-
like you said, back to slipcovers and seagrass etc
Hi Joni:
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to hear everything is OK & that your up & running! Also, I wanted to congratulate you on your article in Better Homes & Garden. I just saw the article yesterday & about jump out of my chair - loved it!!! In regards to Nancy Lancaster auto biography ,I still have not finished that book & I bought it when it first came out!
Just checked out your blog and the photos are amazing and there is so much information. Well done and thanks for all the good work.
