Running on Car Batteries and A Prayer!

Just  a quick note to tell everyone that we survived intact! We're fine!  I'm writing a longer post and will hopefully get it online in just a little bit.

Thank you, everyone, for all your prayers and thoughts and well wishes.  Your prayers worked, that is for sure! I can't thank you enough.

  1. Soooooo good to finally hear from you. Thank God our prayers for you were heard. There are horror tales coming out of Houston. Glad you're not part of it. Also, I assume your beloved tree made it.

  23. I've been checking your blog off and on all day to see if you were able to post at all (not that it's your priority at all) but I have been watching the weather channel and have seen Houston and WOW! My girlfriend finally got in touch with me and although things are ugly, her house is okay (one small leak) and her children are okay too. She's running on generators and is thankful that they came through with very little damage. So happy to hear that you came through well too. What a scary night for sure!
Here in Chicagoland we're flooding but nothing like you all. I will continue to pray that all gets back to normal quickly.

So glad to hear that you are alright. I've been up north in Michigan babysitting the Grand's and there was no computer access since Dana had her laptop with here. I was so worried about you and am so happy that you are well.
    Hugs and best wishes,

  26. My niece works at the flight museum in Galveston and they flew her and her dog out on a B29, that they were also saving, and took her to within an hour of her parents in Denton. She lives one block off the coast so there's not a lot of hope there. But she's safe with her family.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So glad you made it through and you are OK! Try to stay cool now until the power is back!

    ReplyDelete
  28. HI! Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I just came out to my car to plug in the computer and see what's going on in blogland. I can not express how much your kind thoughts and prayers meant to me. The bloggers in Houston were keeping in touch with each other last night -- it's such a wonderful community that I am so proud to be a part of with all of you! Just amazing - the power of the internet. Thank you so much, so very very much! But - gosh, I'm SOOO bored!!!!! no lights, no tv really - just local, no ac, so boring! I'll try to send emails to you when the power comes back on. again, Thanks!!

  29. Just thinking about you and checked in to see if you're doing okay. Glad to hear you survived intact! Had to laugh at all those cold cuts and cheese that were going to keep you from starving after all the power was out.

Wonderful news! I was glued to the TV with such trepidation all evening.
I re-read your post from a while back on historic Galveston, what a painfully beautiful piece of history.
I will be watching for more updates, as you and your family begin to return to life as it should be.

  49. The power of communication is so wonderful in this country. We can keep in touch by Blogging and CNN is right on the spot to keep us informed, but when nature "happens" we have no control. I wish I could beam myself over to Houston and help out. Thank heavens you are through the worst of it and I hope things can get back to normal soon for you!!

  52. Looking at the pix on the NYTimes web site. Hope that oak tree held!

This is tornado country and you can't really prepare for them. You just lay down in a ditch when you hear the sound of a train coming (that's what they sound like). But I think sitting and waiting for a storm that's rolling in has got to be much, much worse.

Oh, and love that powder room!

  83. Joni, If you get out, drive by the house on Reba that you featured a few weeks ago. They don't have power but they have opened up their windows and everything looks so lovely. It would be a great picture for your blog. I'm a neighbor on Reba but I don't know them personally.

  84. Joni...
It's nice to know that you and your loved ones made it...a little drenched & soggy, but well & safe.
San Antonio has been pretty busy of late, Dolly, Gustov & now Ike, many evacuated to S.A. & we're trying our best to help accomidate...but wish the rest of the country would help the way they did w/Katrina....it's getting a bit a tight & frustations even tighter.
It might be a long wait...be patient, the calvary is on its way. :>)

    ReplyDelete
  85. I drove by Sally Wheat's house and her husband said their beach house escaped damage - their neighborhood in Boliver is doing fine. Hard to believe after seeing the pictures from Boliver, but hopefully since they are all new houses- they were built with good hurricane protection. So glad for them! Haven't heard about Shirley and Kirby's house, but knowing that it's been there for over 100 years, I'll bet it made it too. Still no power, nothing. So boring. Back in my car again, thankful for the car battery. And I'm soooo thankful for the ATT internet card which I highly recommend getting - it's a lifesaver as Comcast is down to all but 5% of its customers. Unreal. Tomorrow is Wed - this started on Friday - and still, it's like a disaster zone. Ben went to his office and took a laptop to charge it up so I may have a couple of hours online tonight! yippee!!! Thanks again so much for all your prayers and thoughts. They mean the world to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  101. Joni,
I feel for you. Going for days, without everyday conveniences is so trying. Several summers ago, we had 100+ mph straight line winds rip through our city, and although we only went for a few days without power, most areas suffered for almost 3 weeks.

Your sense of humor will surely get you through! I hope you are journaling by candle light, I am looking forward to reading all about your experience.
