COTE DE TEXAS: A Visit To Carolyne Roehm’s Chisholm House – Upstairs!!!

A Visit To Carolyne Roehm’s Chisholm House – Upstairs!!!

About 10 months ago, I did a story on Carolyne Roehm’s wonderful Chisholm House in Charleston, South Carolina.

Not many photographs of the house have been published and the upstairs has remained largely unseen, except for a very few Instagram photos.  Still, through Instagram, Carolyne’s blog, and YouTube videos, along with old real estate photos, I was able to piece together what Carolyne’s lovely southern home looked like – minus the upstairs.

Despite all the effort…those upstairs rooms remain tantalizingly hidden away.  What DO they look like???   Her other bedrooms in New York and Aspen and Connecticut give a hint at what delights are waiting to be uncovered in Chisholm House.  Rumor is Carolyne is working on two new books – the second one is supposed to be about her Charleston home and I promise you, I will be the first in line to buy it!

Around the same time that I was writing my blog story, Susanna Salk with her partner Stacey Bewkes, from her blog Quintessence, were in town, videotaping several Charleston homeowners, including Carolyne.

I was so excited to see their video that I kept checking Quintessence several times a day, waiting for it to come online.   After a few weeks, Stacey gently told me to relax.  It would be months before the video was ready.

Really.

What WAS I thinking?

Their videos are so well-done, so well-produced and so well-edited, why didn’t all the time that it would take to produce their perfect 10 minute videos occur to me ?

A few days ago, Stacey finally revealed the finished video on Quintessence, and it was truly worth waiting for.   I’ll give you the link to their video at the end of this story and if you love Carolyne’s Chisholm House you will love the video.

If you aren’t familiar with the series of videos that Stacey Bewkes and Susanna Salk make – you are missing out on a huge treat.   These  partners visit the houses of talented designers and while Stacey videos, Susanna is the interviewer.    What is so delightful is that you actually get to visit many of your favorite houses that you have seen in books and magazines.   Some videos are shorter while others are over ten minutes long.  Regardless, it’s always a bit bittersweet when the video ends, you want it to go on and on.

The best part of their newest video is that we see Carolyne’s upstairs – FINALLY!!!!

So…..are her bedrooms gorgeous?   Need you ask?  I was gasping, gasping!!!!  at the beauty of it all.  Carolyne is a visual master which is to be expected since she is also an accomplished artist.

The video starts with Carolyne welcoming Susanna into her large entry with the faux painted black and white floor.

Susanna first takes us through the Chinoiserie room.  I think the room looks beautiful in the early evening, as seen here, with all the candelabras glowing.

Carolyne confesses that she buys her flowers at Trader Joes!  Susanna is a bit indignant declaring that SHE is the Queen of Trader Joes, not Carolyne.

Don’t tell Susanna, but actually Carolyne with fellow Charlestonian Patricia  Altschul also shop for flowers at Costco!!!!

It’s hard to focus on the chatter because the room is beyond magnificent.

It is filled with the prettiest antique chinoiserie pieces – so who really cares where the flowers come from?  Actually, I’m going to make a mad dash for Houston’s Trader Joes and check out their flowers.

That desk!

Next they visit the Bird Room.

Sigh….

Carolyne tells the story behind the inspiration of the room.

She shares the story of how she acquired this painting which inspired the room’s decor.

I think this is my favorite room in the front part of the downstairs.  I have another favorite in the back part of the downstairs.

The BEST story told in this room is how Carolyne makes dog blankets for her eight dogs – you can see here that the seat actually has a coordinating blanket on the sofa to protect it against the puppies.  She just washes it and puts it back on the sofa, nice and clean!  Great idea!!!   Actually, she only takes two dogs down to Charleston.  The others stay back on the farm in Connecticut.

This part of the video is nice because there aren’t that many photographs of the brown and white with red accents dining room/library/office.  Notice the top of the bookcases with their symmetrically hung black and white medallions.

The view from the opposite direction.  I love the lamps wired into the table.   Carolyne uses this room for an office when she’s in town.

We finally get a close up of the chandelier and the medallions.

Can’t get much prettier.

Her small but perfectly darling powder room from Instagram.

Next they visit the family room which is my favorite room in the back of the house.   This is actually one of my all-time favorite rooms, it just appeals to me in a way that is hard to describe.  Is it the soft colors – the pinks and greens of the murals?  Or is it the beautiful antique chandelier?  It could be the damask fabric.  Regardless, it all comes to together to make a beautiful TV room.

In this photo taken earlier than the one above, you can see the white console with a pair of white lamps and white coral is not here yet.  The chairs around the table are different too – not sure where these went.

I love this gilt accented side table, which now sits next to the sofa.

And of course, Carolyne explains the purpose of the room – where she and her partner binge watch TV.  But where to hide the big ugly TV?  If I had panels like this, I wouldn’t want a big ugly TV ruining the peaceful decor either!   Carolyne had her faux painter copy the panels and in the corner, her partner put the TV on a rotating device.  They remove the faux painting and turn the TV on its side and binge away.  When the show ends, the faux mural is put back on the TV and viola….the ugly black flatscreen is now gone.

Another screencap from the video.

Oh, I love this room!!!

At this point, Carolyne, Susanna and Stacey move the story upstairs.

THE SECOND FLOOR.   READY?

ARE YOU SURE????

Isn’t this beautiful???

I know!  Gorgeous!

OK

Just kidding!!

This is what the guest bedroom used to look like.

It looks like this today:

Yes.

A screenshot from the video shows this guest bedroom in pink.  I just gasped when I saw this.  It looks like a soft pink dogwood silk was used for the curtains and a pink print was used on the bed and chairs with a different print in a green and white stripe.  Swedish demilune at the side and some type of Swedish desk are in the room along with the fireplace, and a beautiful mirror with two small French chairs.  The ottoman is beautiful in gilt.   The curtains are tied with bows.

Is there a prettier bedroom?

This room is visited for only a few seconds – so get ready to freeze frame and reverse!

This is the before of the master bedroom.

The master bedroom is all lavender – inspired by the chest.

Notice the inner lining of the bed drapes looks like a dark gray velvet.  Just out of sight on the right is another piece of French antique.

Carolyne bought the chest at auction and designed the room around it.

It’s all lavender with green.   Unreal!!!

Two chairs and a screen at the window.

Close up!

I tried and tried and tried to get this screencap of the console in one photo but it was too large.  Even with these two photos, it’s missing a large section of the upper console.

This console must be extremely tall in real life!!!!

Carolyne collects tole flowers and I assume these are part of her collection.

This smaller bedroom is in blue and white stripes with another fabulous print fabric.   So perfect for Charleston.

BEFORE:  I think this is the next room, renovated – or very similar to it.

Ready???

WHEW!!!!

The guest room is dominated by a glorious antique French bed with walls decorated by Braquenié’s Tree of Life pattern.

Another pretty screencap from the Quintessence video.

This portrait of the man in a red jacket was initially intended for the library/dining room but ended up here instead – where it gives the room importance.  I love this portrait!!

Photo from the Quintessence blog:  The Tree of Life Pattern is placed on the bedspread – red taffeta is on the canopy.

Beautiful French clock and Carolyne in the mirror!!!

Close up.    Notice the crown and the posts – the bed is especially pretty with these carved posts.  Not that I would expect anything less from Carolyne Roehm.

Carolyne tends to buy the most beautiful antiques at auction houses and shops.  Each piece is special and hand-picked by her alone.  There is no one else working with her, it’s all her exquisite taste and unerring eye, alone.

In the alcove the Tree of Life pattern is seen again, framed by the second fabric and paired with Swedish chairs and, I will say a Swedish table too, but of that I’m not sure as I don’t have a degree from Sotheby’s!!

In the video, Carolyne attributes her love of the Pierre Frey Tree of Life fabric or  "Le Grand Genois"  HERE

The room she cites as her inspiration is Hubert Givenchy’s guest room at his country home - Le Jonchet.

There is NO good photograph of this guest room on the internet!!  Someone needs to scan one in, since Givenchy’s iconic room is said to be an inspiration for so many designers and home owners – and with good reason.

The fabric was first made by Braquenié in the 18th century – 1750 – for the European market.

I’m not sure where Givenchy got his inspiration from.   Perhaps he just saw it at Braquenie and loved it.  I’ve asked a few design historians but came up with nothing.  Everyone cites THIS room as their inspiration, but who did Givenchy cite?

The fabulously talented Daniel Romualdez used the print in his own country house’s bedroom, which spread its popularity even more.

Then there was Mark Sikes who redid his guest suite using the print.   Sikes credited Givenchy for his inspiration.

AND lookie here.  Gela Nash-Taylor who is 1/2 the partnership of Juicy Couture hired Robert Kime to decorate her country manse in England.    AND he used the famous Braquenie on the walls along with the original toile on the beds.

And so….when Carolyne Roehm says that Givenchy inspired her, you know she’s in good company.

While working on this story, I watched a lot of the Quintessence videos - they are just so enjoyable, it’s impossible to watch just one!  And, it’s not a long investment of time, you can easily watch a handful in a hour.  Viewing their videos is like you were invited to your favorite designer’s home for a tour followed by a meal or cuppa tea.

The videos are produced, shot, and edited by Stacey Bewkes.  Bewkes is a former NYC art director, now living with her family in Connecticut.  The photos of her house on Instagram show she has a love of Bennison and English Country Manor and I wish she would produce a video tour of her own house – it looks so cute.

I watched a lot of Stacey and Susanna’s videos and here are some that I really love and think you would enjoy too:

Look familiar?   Gil Schafer’s house in the country.  HERE

Even though it looks like an original Greek Revival – Gil’s house is new.  Wonder who mows that lawn???

Miles Redd helped Gil decorate it and this was the first time the two ever worked together.

I love this painting – it was his grandmother’s.

Gil’s bedroom with the Bennison wallcovering.  The mate to the previous portrait is over the sofa.  Love it!!

The 45 acre estate has gorgeous grounds – well worth watching the video.

Gil’s book about his house, click the photo to order.

Next, I watched his collaborator Miles Redd’s video HERE.

It is a fun video because we have seen rooms in his apartment so many times, but how many times have you seen the living room from the landing?   And notice his floors.

AND, then Susanna and Stacey go to Miles’ office which is a real laboratory.  The walls are green velvet.   Miles is such a sweetheart!

Next is a visit to New Orleans with Jane Scott Hodges HERE.  Jane owns Leotine Linens so there is a lot of talk about monogramming – YES!

AND these fabulous green walls.  Notice how the windows double as doors – just watch your head!

This is another popular room on the Internet.  Did you ever realize this room is upstairs?????

She has the most gorgeous monograms everywhere.   At one point, Jane shows how they sell square placemats and how the square perfectly frames the plate.

Next, is an oldie but goodie – Aerin Lauder’s house in the Hamptons HERE:

It’s a tour of her house which was her grandmother Estee’s.

The family room is all one fabric.  It’s a nice tour of the house you’ve seen in all the magazines.

NOTE:   In the videos, you also get a feel for what the person is really like.   Some people are very natural and warm and others are more shy and introverted.  You get an understanding of who the person is, which is a nice bonus – since we will probably never meet any of these people in person!

Plus, Susanna is a great interviewer.  She is so friendly and open and engaging and she brings out the best in her hosts.

OK, back to the final few.

Another good video is at Bunny Williams’ farm while she sets the table, kind of. HERE.

Lots of filming in the conservatory and the attached barn.  Lovely!!!

Those frogs!   The table was set with dishes and glasses from Bunny’s new Ballard collection.

And then there are these two folks from California, the authors of, probably, the two most popular design books in the past few years.  Mark Sikes is first, HERE.

Another tour of a house that we are familiar with – but in the video you feel like you are actually there…

Sitting in his beautiful back yard!

With a long visit in the enlarged bedroom.

How about a visit to Patina Farms???   HERE.

There’s a tour of the farm and visits with all the animals that Brooke and Steven have.

Even though this room has been updated and refurnished a bit, I still love the way it was here.     And at the left – notice the bell tower stairs, which Susanna climbs up.

I’ll guess I’ll stop.  There are so many wonderful videos from Susanna and Stacey, I could go on and on.

And now for a little bit of shopping…

Alright, alright.  Just two more videos first:   Laura Slatkin HERE and her brother in law Howard Slatkin HERE.   Laura owns Nest Candles which makes my current favorite candle Bamboo.

To order click on photo or HERE.

Howard has sold his fabulous apartment – remember this book?  It’s a great lesson in using historical decor as inspiration.

To order Howard’s book, click on photo.

Now, here’s my personal wish list – I would love to see a video of Laura’s house in the Hamptons.  It’s beyond fabulous and Howard did the decoration.  Plus, does Howard have a new apartment in NYC?  I would love to see a video of India Hicks new house in England.  How about Nancy Meyers house decorated by Mark Sikes.

And you?

Work your way back through Susanna and Stacey’s list of videos and be sure to subscribe to Quintessence’s You Tube Network HERE.

To order Susanna Salk and Stacey Bewkes delightful new book, click on the photo.  If you are a dog lover and a design lover – you will lover this!  LOL

And finally, a major thank you to Carolyne Roehm for always being so gracious and sharing her homes with her devotees.   Remember what I said about getting a feel for what a person is really like?   When we interviewed Carolyne for the Skirted Roundtable HERE, all three of us fell in love with her and were so surprised at how open and just how NICE she was!!   Truly nice.

Carolyne has taken up watercoloring and she has painted a series of flowers.  You can buy the prints and have them framed or not.  But what I love is her collection of note cards.  There are four different sets of prints:

To order go HERE

AND – for the perfect gift for that person who has everything – or just a splurge for youself:

Decorated ziploc bags for traveling in style.  Only Carolyne would think of this!   But, why not make the lowly ziploc bag prettier??  For traveling and your jewelry and makeup organizing.

Go HERE.

A huge thank you to Stacey and Susanna and Carolyne for making our world more beautiful today!

  1. I have watched ALL the video interviews. Fabulous! So well done. I love that you get to see the person in their home and the environment they love and have worked so hard on. I would love for Susanna to get her hair blown out professionally for the videos.

    1. Hello, I am Theresa Williams After being in relationship with Anderson for years, he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to my friend and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4 pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem. email: {drogunduspellcaster@gmail.com} you can email him if you need his assistance in your relationship or any other Case.

    2. I'm so excited my husband is back after he left me for another woman. My husband and I have been married for about 7 years now. We are happily married with two kids, a boy and a girl. 3 months ago, I started to notice some strange behavior from him and a few weeks later I found out that my husband is seeing someone. He started coming home late from work, he hardly care about me or the kids anymore, Sometimes he goes out and doesn't even come back home for about 2-3 days. I did all I could to rectify this problem but all to no avail. I became very worried and needed help. As I was browsing through the internet one day, I came across a website that suggested that Dr OGUNDU can help solve marital problems, restore broken relationships and so on. So, I felt I should give it a trial. I contacted him and told him my problems and he told me what to do and i did it and he did a spell for me. 24 hours later, my husband came to me and apologized for the wrongs he did and promise never to do it again. Ever since then, everything has returned back to normal. I and my family are living together happily again.. All thanks to Dr OGUNDU. If you have any problem contact him and i guarantee you that he will help you. He will not disappoint you. Email him at: {drogunduspellcaster@gmail.com}

  4. An amazing tour. I enjoy the Quintessence blog, and Susanna is new to me.
The pink/green TV room is so subtle, and what a mix of colors. Same with the lavender and green in the bedroom. It's a nice change from all white and all gray.
I love the shot of the swirl of the staircase juxtaposed with the squares on the floor.
Thanks for the other examples of that Pierre Frey Tree of Life pattern. It looks so different in each place. Carolyne's is palatial, some of the others are much more casual. Yet it still looks great in each setting.
Matching upholstery and wallpaper recalls the 1950s and 1960s to me (not that I was there). Sometimes it can be too much, but Carolyne keeps it from exploding the brain by using delicate motifs. Even the bolder Tree of Life, with its reds, has lots of white space that keeps the overall effect from being suffocating.

  7. While lovely to look at, Carolyne's house is like something I would like to tour once, but could not imagine living in at all. "Family Room"?? Please. I can't picture a group of friends or family visiting comfortably in any of those rooms.

    1. Liparifam, I agree with you that the rooms do not look comfortable and warm. To me. It is probably because my taste runs towards English country manor modified by a little less clutter and with with mostly modern paintings on the wall (I cannot have many since I have more windows than walls). BUT, I do not agree with the friend of one of the readers who said it "aped Versailles." That was not a fair assessment. They way I see it, the owner loves French decor and I think her mansion looks tasteful, very elegant and even the more gilded rooms (and gild is contrary to MY taste) are appropriate to her decor and all of her rooms are unified as a whole. The "TV room" feel and color tone are magnificent.

      Delete
    5. Anonymous 9:50 PM. First, I do not know why you think someone might be drinking because they found something funny when you did not. I am also inclined to think most people, like you, could not see why I was amused. I am sorry you did not simply asked for clarification without the aid of a minor veiled insult. It felt that way event though drinking, depending on how it is done, it is not necessarily bad. It was just how you said it, just like Joni's comment was funny because it was just the way she said it. It was unexpected, so the TIMING was funny when she mentioned that her husband was a mess.

    6. I actually had just said that on Instagram. I showed a picture of my family room - all neat and clean. And it just makes me crazy because Ben just messes everything up!!! He's sick so he lives in the family room and rarely moves and he's stuff just grows and finally after I beg him for weeks I get a big bag and put it in the garage!!! Drives me insane but since he is ill, I try not to say too much, just let him be. Just wish his "let him be" was neater.

    7. I didn't get it either. What was so extremely funny?

      Delete
    8. That's certainly true - a house doesn't have to be comfortable and livable if you don't actually have to live in it... :)

    9. Joni - why are your readers having such a negative reaction to this house? Carolyn designed the house for herself. It’s magnificent. It meets her needs and makes her happy. Carolyn did not suggest that anyone emulate her design so they could enjoy their potluck dinner, monthly book club meeting or their bud lite drinking Sunday football match. Take a friggin chill pill and just enjoy the beauty. Maybe take an idea or 2 for your own home if you think appropriate I.e. wall color, a gold mirror, some bird art.

  10. I am not qualified to pass judgement on this because personally I can't get my head around these terribly lavish, terribly expensive living spaces. I don't object to lavish or expensive per se, but these rooms look fussy, dated and ostentatious to me. They look like a house museum, which I very much enjoy visiting. But these are spaces someone lives in. Today. Does anyone else think its terribly derivative?

    1. Yes, the décor is pretty high falutin, kind of like "derivative."

    2. You mean like the oriental figurine she painted a jade color in the chinoiserie room piles imitation on top of imitation?

      Delete
    3. The room is a statement in of itself. It IS a green chinoiserie room - it's meant to present itself as one vision, the green hue with the chinoiserie acting as an accent.

    4. To Melanie: you see dated, I see beautiful world class design. I would love to come home to the chinoiserie room every day. It’s a masterpiece. I wouldn’t change a thing.

    2. Jill, I read your comment before you erased it. She is an artist, a designer and a gardener. Why not share your beauty with others who don't have a garden like yours? She photographs much of it herself, plans it all, can design anything really from clothes to houses to gardens - why not share it? Plus is writing a book about your gardens or your designs so awful? I'm fascinated by her style. I'd much rather read what someone who does have exquisite taste has to say than someone whose style is not quite as refined. Also I don't think she bought that painting for its color - instead she bought it because she loved it and designed the room and its color around it. Same with the portrait of the man in red. She didn't buy the portrait for the room, she designed the room around it. Big difference.
Why did you erase the comment? It makes for a great discussion.

    3. It's so irritating these days when someone wants to know why other people who have more money than they do, spend their money the way that they do instead of using it to "help others".
It's still America and it's still a capitalistic country (much to these people's chagrin) and those of us who have a bit of coin and have worked legitimately for it, still have the right to spend it on whatever we choose and it's no one else's beeswax.
Go ahead and give YOUR money to whomever you choose, but stop commenting on how other people should spend theirs.

    4. I agree. So what that she has wealth?!? I think she has great style. You wouldn’t see these wonderful antiques, fabrics and designs unless people like Carolyn have a passion and the means for collecting and design, and are willing to share images of their homes and gardens through books and blogs.

  16. I usually love what Carolyne does in terms of decorating but this Charleston house is just gawdawful! It looks more like a museum than a home and, for me, does not evoke a warm and inviting atmosphere. It's like she treated this home more like a decorating laboratory for her blog and upcoming book(s).

Joni, I love your blog and even though I had to go stare at a blank wall after reading THIS post, your research and accompanying photos to all of your posts is incredible.

    1. If you would have just left out the part where you used the word "gawdawful." it would have gotten your point across forcefully enough without being quite so mean. There's a chance that the subjects of some of these posts Joni writes could actually be reading here, and seeing what we are saying. I'm not saying we can't be objectively critical, but there's no reason to be mean about how someone has decorated their home.

    2. Well. I have to say that I always worry about homeowners reading the comments. I'm sure CR's feelings are just as sensitive as yours or mine. And I'm sure Gina just didn't think about it. AND I'm sure CR isn't reading this. But, just in case - Carolyne...I LOVE your house! This one is my favorite one of all of them. I just wish you would join the Southern Charm cast!!!

    3. Anonymous March 30 at 11:52 PM, I hope that my very long reply to your comment is not met with annoyance. It was gratifying to see that even behind the shroud of anonymity your true self came out. You tend to be a kind person and you were after my own heart when you suggested a reader should have left out the word “gawdawful.” Now, this reply comment (journal?) of mine is not directed at any particular reader, but it has been prompted by your comment which made me think and I want to share my thoughts.

Many years of research lends support that people are mean to others in order to feel better about themselves. When one insults or criticize another in harsh ways (as opposed to just voicing a difference of opinion) most of us know that it says more about how the critic is feeling about him or herself than the person or group being criticized. In a very general sense, insecurity over who we are really does drive just about most of the cruelty we see in all of social media.

Social comparison theory explains that people tend to make “downward comparisons” to other people, in this blog case, about other people’s taste and ways of $pending their own money, because voicing the dislike in such forceful ways, makes the critics feel better about themselves. Unless, people are masochists, they prefer to feel good about themselves and those downward comparisons gives them permission to look down on other people. Besides, online anonymity has a disinhibition effect, no one knows who one is thus any constraints on one’s comments go down the drain. A very old cartoon by Peter Steiner (from the 90’s) says: “on the Internet, nobody knows you’re not a dog.”

I have also noticed (and she actually said it) that Joni does not remove comments from her blog. I applaud her for that. If she censored the blog to an extreme, it would affect our experience, it would impinge on readers sharing their reality. And this shared reality is why we want to comment in the first place!! In a broader view, freedom of speech is a serious thing and limiting one’s speech (short of shouting fire on a crowded theater) is a slippery slope.

Joni made her blog a place where we all have a voice, she tends to respond with slight humor, and a lot of compassion, I might say, to the readers who disagree with her views of what she posts. I could be wrong, but I feel that she does not judge them either, for their different opinions.

Incidentally, I miss reading Sheila's and Penny's comments. Where are they? They were frequent contributors to this blog.

    4. To Leticia Crawford:
I am not "behind the shroud of anonymity." I simply do not have an account under any of the other platforms that allow one to comment here, so that "anonymous" is the only place I am allowed to comment. People can make up names for their blog comments, whether they comment under a platform or under anonymous; we don't know what anyone's real name is anyway so what difference does it make?
      Absolutely none.

      Delete
    5. Dear reader, you said "whether they comment under a platform or under anonymous; we don't know what anyone's real name is anyway so what difference does it make?
Absolutely none." I am in total support of anyone voicing their own personal opinion. However, posting with a pseudonym or simply under "Anonymous" makes a world of difference. My opinion on this subject is not just personal, original, unique or subjective. The FACT that anonymity often changes the behavior of writers in social media is proven by longitudinal research since the Internet became accessible to many. Part of my training requires one to be able to recognize whether any research was done by methods that were proven to be scientific and reliable and whether the data collection was done properly. If those requirements are not met, the research outcome is not worth the paper it is written on. So, before I believe the outcome of any research, I look at the method used and the type, how was the data collected, whether the studies have been replicated several times AND whether the results of those studies were the same. Well conducted longitudinal research is difficult to conduct and rather costly. So, I am very confident in accepting the results of researches that have been available, some conducted for two decades, showing that people's behavior under anonymity (be it writing, posting in social media, or engaging in group activities when their faces are covered) tend to change from their behavior when they are easily identified. I understand that some platforms make it difficult for one to post in ways other than under "anonymous," but it does not prevent us from writing out our names at the end of the comment. This happens to me when I use a different browser than the one I am using now. One browser is under the nickname for my first name. At times I just leave at that, other times I sign my first name at the end of the posting. It really does not matter to me how people post. I am just making a commentary on how circumstances tend to change human behavior. Tomorrow is a holiday, if you celebrate it, I wish you a very Happy Easter!!

  17. Two things:
This is a fabulous Southern mansion and she was probably decorating the inside to suit its' stately magnificent design. Of course it isn't what you would do to your house in the suburbs.
Secondly, this isn't brand new, is it? I feel like I saw it quite awhile back. All our tastes change through time, and maybe she would change it a bit now. I could "fix" it easily for my taste by just ripping down some of the draperies and/or valences. There's a lot of beautiful stuff in there! I think I could furnish another whole house with stuff from there, and this one would still have enough in it...tsk! She must like it like it is or she would change it...but only AFTER the book on this particular iteration.

  21. Chisolm-Alston House is not a french chateau .
So these rooms cannot be considered French , but echo a certain period .
To me they look very American , though she used some original beautiful European furniture .
Much of it is also " faux " and fitted into the house , faux marble floors , faux painted furniture , faux mantle piece , faux mirrors , etc .
Much of it she explanes herself , she is very open about it .
It's a beautiful place for herself , entertaining dear friends and guests .
Personally I think her superior talents are decorating tables and her stunning flower arrangements . Nobody does it better .
But I have discovered - cake atelier Amsterdam - on Instagram , a close second maybe ?

  22. This is exhausting, reading these "comments." Have any of those that posted comments ever stepped foot in a house of this age or grandeur? Perhaps not. Honestly, I have visited Charleston SC on numerous occasions to merely walk the historic streets and imagine what lies behind the door. I have visited many a house museum and seen interiors on real estate web sites. Many people that live there have money. It takes money too maintain the buildings and gardens and the interiors -- well,, one feels obligated to furnish the house in the spirit of the era in which it was built. I would imagine. And rooms with high ceiling call for some drama if you think about it. Scale and well I am not a trained interior designer but I have read about themes and inspiration and the golden thirds and what not. As an author and artist she is compelled to express herself and if a book publisher says we want to feature your home in a book here is an advance please give us three chapters by next year.... What a country. What a way to earn a living decorating your fabulous home. Get paid to wait a minute if I recall correctly Martha Stewart had the magazine MSL Pay her to have photo shoots in her home.... what a country get paid to have pictures of your home to be published in a magazine that has your name on it. Like I told you, What a country. This town has survived a devastating earthquake, fires floods, hurricanes, war time bombardments, and urban renewal attempts to destroy historic properties --now cruise ships dock at the port and the streets fill with tourists eager to soak up the history and enjoy the southern hospitality and charm of The Holy City of Charleston . You are in for a treat if you visit You tube and listen to the video/song a youth group posted Meet Me Down it Charleston an original song performed by a talented group of friends.

We are happily married with two kids, a boy and a girl. 3 months ago, I started to notice some strange behavior from him and a few weeks later I found out that my husband is seeing someone. He started coming home late from work, he hardly care about me or the kids anymore, Sometimes he goes out and doesn't even come back home for about 2-3 days. I did all I could to rectify this problem but all to no avail. I became very worried and needed help. As I was browsing through the internet one day, I came across a website that suggested that Dr OGUNDU can help solve marital problems, restore broken relationships and so on. So, I felt I should give it a trial. I contacted him and told him my problems and he told me what to do and i did it and he did a spell for me. 24 hours later, my husband came to me and apologized for the wrongs he did and promise never to do it again. Ever since then, everything has returned back to normal. I and my family are living together happily again.. All thanks to Dr OGUNDU. If you have any problem contact him and i guarantee you that he will help you. He will not disappoint you. Email him at: {drogunduspellcaster@gmail.com}
