Some months ago while researching the story “The Prettiest House Ever?”….
I discovered a blog I had never heard of before - probably making me the last person on earth to not have known about “Gal Meets Glam.” The Gal behind the Glam, Julia Engel, was the first to photograph the beautiful manse, Le Mas des Poiriers, in Provence when she visited it last summer and thanks to her glorious photos, everyone is still talking about “The Prettiest House Ever.”
Le Mas des Poiriers’ dining room by Gal Meets Glam
All the Gal Meets Glam photographs from that Provencal trip were so beautiful - full of softly colored flowers and lush landscapes and always the perfectly coifed and dressed Julia – I became instantly hooked on the blog.
Photos on Julia’s blog are by Thomas Engel, partner in Gal Meets Glam and the husband!
The blog focuses on the Engels’ life, their home, Julia’s clothes, their travels, Charleston - and all are seen through a lens that captures the world at its prettiest.
The Gal, Julia Engel and her husband Thomas, have turned their lifestyle blog into a juggernaut. She started it in college and 7 years later, Gal Meets Glam is exploding and Julia & Thomas are jumping off the precipice now. Think: a young Rachel Ashwell who, instead of slipcovers, deals in cute dresses. Even their palette is the same – pastel blue and pink.
After a visit to Charleston, the couple moved from San Francisco and started over, buying a darling pink house they recently renovated. No doubt their photos are a stage from which to sell merchandise, but the presentation is so beautiful you forget that.
The couple use their global travels to showcase her aesthetic and their love of food and design and clothes, always clothes. It’s all just so PRETTY!
Julia is the perfect model with a flawless face and cute figure - she looks beautiful in anything she puts on. There is a very wholesome quality about it all. There are no tattoos, no décolletage and certainly no nudity. In the age of social media driven by the lusty Kardashians, this is nice haven to escape to. She and Thomas make a darling couple and it’s obvious they are madly in love. They are equal partners, though her aesthetic drives the visuals, no doubt.
Thomas is a self taught photographer whose skills have grown with the blog. He is there to capture Julia and her best angles, though I’ve yet to see a single flaw.
Their move to Charleston was genius. The pink and blue buildings are the perfect backdrop for Julia. It’s as if the city was designed with Gal Meets Glam in mind.
With all their success at such a young age, their future is limitless.
When they moved to Charleston, the couple bought this darling (of course!) pink (of course!) house, but they promptly moved out while a complete renovation took place.
The front porch was the selling point. Warm sea breezes were a welcoming factor after cold and rainy San Francisco.
Today their house is freshly painted bright white with soft blue shutters. The couple have moved back into their house, but haven’t shown the newly renovated interiors yet – except in a few photos and on Instagram.
How pretty is this? I thought the pink was cute, but the white house with blue accents is perfection!
Julia wrote that the windows were replaced. You can see there is a pink lantern hanging and it looks like there are white floors here in the foyer. The walls are all shiplap. It looks beyond adorable!
A glimpse of the family room shows blues with custom cut seagrass and dark wood floors with a striped khaki and pink curtain fabric. It looks like there is a screened porch out back along blue and white furniture.
The breakfast room has a banquette with more blue and white stripes and more shiplap.
Thomas is the cook of the family. The kitchen cabinets are beautiful, a light blue with white marble counters. Notice the refrigerator behind square cut cabinetry. Above the stove are blue and white tiles.
Along the kitchen is a row of three windows and a farm sink.
The master bath is gorgeous! The same cabinetry with gold hardware and light pink paint. A door leads to an outdoor balcony.
And from Instagram stories, the bathtub and the pink and white tiled floor.
I can not wait until they show more of the house!
Last year, Julia announced a collaboration between Lulu & Georgia – with this darling rug! I fell in love with it!!!
Since their house was being remodeled, she showcased it here, in her beautiful office:
The “Garden Party Rug” by Gal Meets Glam. HERE
See more of the sofa HERE
The jute coffee table is on backorder HERE
The blue chairs come in different colors HERE
Who wouldn’t want to get up and go to work at this office?!?!
The rug was quite an accomplishment for the 20-something girl, but the best of the best was still to come:
Recently Julia revealed that she had developed a dress line that she will sell through Gal Meets Glam, but the major push is with Nordstrom’s!! Further, the line will completely change every month! The dresses are Julia feminine with cute bows and pastel colors, but there are also black and white fabrics too.
Needless to say the clothes have flown off the shelves. Flown off – as if they were free. Extra merchandise had to be quickly manufactured to meet the demand. And this is just May. There will be another monthly collection in just a few weeks.
I picked out some of my favorites of the line. You can click on the word “Here” to see more or to order.
Also if Nordstrom’s is out of your size or to see more of the line, go to the Gal Meets Glam Collection web site HERE.
This is the perfect white dress, below the knee. There is a tone on tone floral pattern and a low back.

Most of the dresses go up to bigger sizes for us full-figured ladies. Be sure to look around the Nordstrom site to see all the dresses and new ones that are added daily, as the original monthly collection sells out. The prices are low, it’s very cost-friendly. If you don’t see your size on Nordstrom, check out the web site HERE.
One last one, a dressy blush or navy lacy dress. HERE
On Instagram, when girls buy their Gal Meets Glam dresses, they are posting their photos under the hashtag #galmeetsglam !!
Here are two everyday models:
She looks great even though the photo is blurry. Sold out on Nordstrom’s but available at Gal Meets Glam HERE.

I love Julia's style. Dressing modestly could so easy veer into frumpy or dowdy, but her looks never do. Just romantic and feminine. Even that--it could so easily cross into princess territory, yet doesn't. And many styles look like they would be flattering on figures that aren't as youthful and lithe as hers. She's really doing a service by creating tasteful clothes. A few of the dresses remind me of things I wore in high school, during a brief trend of romantic dresses.
ReplyDeleteAll the straw bags are so on trend. I see them everywhere.
