Here are my favorites outfits for the Critic Choice Awards that aired this Sunday Night. The Oscars are getting close – airing March 27.
Of course the Critics Choice Awards are not as dressy as the Oscars and the atmosphere is much more casual too.
The Critics Choice Awards are more free flowing than the Oscars, thanks to the liquor that is poured all night long.
As far as the awards, things are narrowing down and it’s easier to guess who is going to win the Oscar by who wins the major awards shows before. So, the Critics Choice Awards is an important one to see and be seen at. Hence, I was so disappointed by one award given out on Sunday, which I will discuss below.
As far as the fashion - I was surprised by how many dresses I actually liked, if not loved! This was a big change from the last award show, the Screen Actors Guild Awards aka SAG Awards where the dresses were rather ugly and not very exciting.
Ready???!
PROM DRESS WITH TULLE SKIRTS
Chiara Auerelia wears one of the prettiest of the prom/tulle skirts. I loved this especially the red rose and the bow ties. The style is very pretty for full figures, although you wouldn’t think so. She looks wonderful. If I only knew who she is!
Am I the only one who doesn’t know who half these actors are?!?!?!?
Lauren Zima’s dress is especially sweet which is the point of a tulle skirt. I love this one.
Getting ready on Instagram, Laura said she was going for a Sex in the City vibe. The dress is signed Oscar de la Renta.
Lavinia Postolache
in a another tulle like skirt and bodice top.
Mychal-Bella Bowman in a darling dress, love the embroidery.
Samantha Hanratty wore a pretty dress with see through skirt by Tony Ward.
PRETTY IN PINK:
Saniyya Sidney in Rodarte
Christine Lahti in
Pamella Roland. Christine has a gorgeous tall, thin frame and this dress is prefect for her age defying body.
Aunjanue Ellis in pink -
Dolce Gabbana. Full Figured, the opposite of Christine – but still every bit as beautiful. the dress fits her like a glove!
Molly Smith Metzler – another 50s silhouette which you wouldn’t think would be so flattering.
Ncuti Gatwa wore a belted suit jacket which I’m sorry. I just hate this look on a man.
Hannah Einbinder wears a gender bending look in this Armani tux which I happen to love.
Jac Schaeffer looked beautiful in a more feminine pants suit.
Jennifer Hagel also wore a feminine pants suit.
The pants suits for women seems to be a big look in Hollywood this season and I wonder if anyone will wear one at the Oscars?
HAIR TRENDS. TWO TRENDS SEEN IN HOLLYWOOD:
Lauren Mandel
Chiara Aurelia’s wisps are much more exaggerated.
Jodie Turner Smith in Gucci had a large croissant!!
Amber Ruffin – no curls, her updo involved braids.
Nicole Byer wore a few updos
Hailie Sahar had her own braided updo. But this outfit!!! She had to hold up the hood the entire time including the time she is on the stage. This wins for the most RIDICULOUS outfit of the night by Rick Owens. It was like it was an umbrella shielding Hailie from the rain!!!
THE GOOD AND THE BAD:
And now – this is a first time ever given award: The Best & The Worst. The Agony & The Ecstasy. Venus & Serena
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Serena looking so gorgeous. Her dress is divine. Her hair, her makeup – perfection. But Venus? I hated her dress. It was beyond bad. It reminded me of cheap sheer polyester curtains hanging over a window. Just awful.
Serena and Venus both in Versace. I wonder if they were the ones who chose which dress they were going to wear??? Serena obviously got the best choice!
Zoey Deutch in Alexander McQueen looked like she was from another decade.
Caitlin Thompson in Jason Wu was another one who looked so dated even though it has the more trendy big bow.
Nikki Novak from another era where Anjelica Jolie lived! Ugh.
Lena Blau – I’m not sure how she ended up on the red carpet. She isn’t on IMDB.
This might be the ugliest dress of the night. Poor thing.
Roxi Shih is a well respected director from Taiwan and America. But gosh. In order to show off her chest tattoo, the dress is cut so unflattering. Imagine if she has worn what Melissa McCarthy had on – she would look beautiful. I love her tiara though! Cute touch.
in Toni Maricevski. This would have been so much cuter as just a dress without the stomach showing.
Jung Ho-yeon
The only thing more incredible than this atrocious dress is it’s by Louis Vuitton. I’m sure it cost a fortune. Can the designer be serious? NO. He can’t be can he?
Robin Thede in
David Koma.
Use jewelry if you want to have a focal point. This looks like a diamond snake or a big J on its side. I just hate this dress!!!
Peyton List
in Yanina Couture
This could have been beautiful if they hadn’t allowed Apple to put their AIR pods hanging all over the velvet!!!
AIR PODS!
Kirsten Wiig in Rodarte.
I can’t get over how terrible she always dresses for awards shows. She certainly could afford the best there is. I love her hair and makeup but why? why?????
Mandy Moore
in Elie Saab
This is a shocker. Elie Saab? He’s so good! The dress just limply hung on her frame. It looked worse in person when she moved. And look at the side view:
Sarah Jones
in Act No. 1
What in the world?!?!? It’s two dresses in one. The cream silk dress seems to be falling off the shoulder exposing the black slip underneath. How ridiculously stupid is this!?!?!?!?
Why????
Well, I guess it’s better than wearing this from the same company Act No.1.
How is this holding up over her crotch. The most unflattering ever. I don’t understand why these girls just don’t go nude.
From Rita’s instagram. How does it stay up?????
LESSONS LEARNED
Margaret Qualley in Chanel
At first glance I really thought it was cute. I still do – without that bow trailing on the ground.
I’m getting worried about Chanel.
Lesson – just because it’s a great brand doesn’t mean everything they produce is great.
Hannah Waddingham, fierce woman. Fierce breasts. Fierce bodice.
It’s just all too much fierce. Too tough. The look needs some softness.
Carolina Herrera
Tanya Lapointe
This probably cost a fortune, but the seams look poorly constructed.
Lesson: be sure the piece is crafted well, especially if its pricey like this.
Courtney Eaton
Again, the lace looks like it came from Walmart and I doubt it did. Be sure the fabric matches the price point.
Robbi Jan
Lesson: The dress should match the occasion. This is too much dress to manage maneuvering around the dinner tables at the Critics Choice Award. She should have saved it for the Oscars.
COULD HAVE BEEN CONTENDERS:
Tawny Cypress
I really liked this. At least her breast are covered! Notice she too has a Grecian updo.
Krys Marshall
in Azzi and Osta
Perfect!!! Love the touch of lavender!
LOL!
Nasim Pedrad Contender not a winner because her hair is just so so. No, how she worn it in a Grecian updo, she might have been a best dressed! LOL
Katja Herbers
in vintage Valentino. Just perfection. Great contender!
Instagram deets!
Issa Rae
in Carolina Herrera
How beautiful!!!!
Shantel VanSanten in LBV
Love the hair and the dress, love no necklace.
Emilia Jones
in Louis Vuitton
Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perfection. That column – fits her shape perfectly. Wow.
NO APOLOGIES TOUR:
I like these following dresses. I know they aren’t perfect, but for some reason they appealed to me. No apologies!
Kirsten Dunst
in Julie de Libran couture with Fred Leighton jewelry
omg. This is everything to me!!!!!!!!!!!
Caitriona Balfe suffers from bad stylist issues. Usually. She looked so good tonight. Christian Dior
MORE CONTENDERS:
Halle Berry. How gorgeous is she? Her hair looked fabulous!
Dolce and Gabbana
AND WITHOUT FUTHER ADO:
THE WINNERS OF THE BEST DRESSED NOMINATIONS!
Louis Vuitton
The dress was perfectly constructed with the jewel holding it all up. It fits wonderfully. Her hair was great. Wow. Justin is a fool!!!
Jasmin Savoy Brown in Prada
Another perfect look. From the hair to the lipstick to the dress to the purse. Best dressed! But she is so beautiful how can she not look great.
d
Oscar de la Renta
Cute!
Armani
She has her hair in the updo Grecian curl trend and wow – she looks gorgeous!!!
Jean Smart in Valentino.
Beyond chic. Chic!!!!!
Her hair, her makeup, the green purse, the watch, the green jewels, that shirt, the skirt.
Who knew she was soooooo chic?!?!?!
AND FINALLY THE
BEST DRESSED
Winner:
Of course it would be her!!!
Kristen Stewart shocking in
Dolce and Gabbana
She’s been a Chanel ambassador for years and wears it mostly, only. Chanel did the clothes for Spencer, her nominated movie. So it was a shock she didn’t wear Chanel. I’m dying to know why!
But – bring back the glamour. Has she ever looked better, prettier, lovelier?
Kristen and Dylan, her girlfriend, fiance.
One more glance.
Those eyes!!! God I just love her!!!!
OH, ok, one more!!!
Well, at least Kristen now knows Jessica Chastain will probably win the Oscar so Kristen can relax and not worry about it so much. Just enjoy the spectacle.
But gosh, I wish she would WIN!!!
Who wants to watch Tammy Faye Baker anyway?!?!?!?!?
Meet back here after the Oscars!
I totally agree - Who are these women? I probably knew five or six and that's it. I always thought I was up on popular culture, but apparently, I'm really not! I also agree with your comments, I thought Jean Smart was stunning!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your comments. How in the world can they look in the mirror and think they look good! So sad and not glamorous at all!

Joni, so fun to read your comments. I’ve only heard of a handful of these women. Hated most of the dresses. I did love the signed Oscar dress.
