OSCARS: 2022

Well, that’s not how I thought it would end!

There are two ways to think of it.  First.  It was just a joke.  Second.  It wasn’t funny to Jada because apparently she has alopecia but Chris Rock doesn’t know that.  He thought her shaved head was a fashion statement. 

Either way, Chris wasn’t disparaging Jada.  She’s a gorgeous woman.  It was just a joke.

Still.  Chris should have immediately apologized, but hero husband Will Smith didn’t give him a chance to apologize.  He hit him like a crazy man.  During the commercial break it looks like Chris tried to talk to Will to no avail.  Will’s later apology did not mention Chris at all even though he had slapped him like a child.

Let’s just say this.   Will Smith sat at Jada’s Red Table while Jada, in public, told the world she was unfaithful, amongst other things, which in the end was all designed to make the family even more rich from all their Red Table viewers.

Her lover had said their relationship happened with Will’s blessings.  Seems like he told the truth. 

The Smith family has been talking about infidelity in their marriage for so long and with so many people that it has become boring already.

Who cares?

Yet, last night Will Smith talked about protecting his family when it seems like the only one they need protection from is themselves.

Not Chris Rock.

It is not lost on people that what Will Smith finally objects to – not talk about her having affairs, but – a joke about her HAIRCUT, well THAT’s what is off limits to the world and what Will needs to protect his family from. 

Something smells rotten in Denmark.   I just don’t buy it. 

There’s something deeper about his rage and I don’t have a clue what that is.  Does he actually hate Chris Rock?  There were stories that Chris had made jokes about Will and Jada before.  Was that really it? 

Judd Apatow tweeted several times about the incident but erased them all.  Here is one of his tweets about Will and Jada:

“They have heard a million jokes about them in the last three decades.  They are not freshman in the world of Hollywood.  He lost his mind.”

Judd went on to say Will could have really hurt Chris, but he later deleted that tweet too.  I guess Judd regretted getting involved and was hearing a lot of backlash. 

Really, when you stop and think about it, the situation was unbelievable.  Will was allowed to go back to his seat and sit there and then receive his award AND a standing ovation.  You would think in any other situation the police would have escorted him out of the auditorium.  But since Will and Jada are such darlings of Hollywood, they would never be treated with anything but kid gloves.

It will be so interesting to see what the press has to say about the incident.   

This is just too funny.  Nicole looked unglued when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock.   This photo of Nicole’s reaction went viral immediately.

 

Remember a few years ago again at the Oscars, videos of her strangely clapping her hands went viral, too.  

And here.   Apparently Nicole was afraid her huge borrowed ring would catch on the dress and would ruin the ring or the dress.  Or some such nonsense.  I think she just really does clap her hands that way. 

It’s exactly how Eddie Murphy clapped his hands crying “Hercules Hercules.” 

The Nutty Professor.  Eddie clapped his hands just like Nicole.

On to the fashion.

 

 

First, the grand dames. 

Judith Dench almost made best dressed, but the fit was so off.  The coat was too big, too long and just didn’t look like it had been tailored.  Her purse was a tad too big, but with some important earrings and bracelets and some tailoring – she could have made the Best Dressed list.    She actually does look wonderful.

 

 

Who IS this?   Shocking how much plastic surgery Sharon Osbourne has had.  She is unrecognizable.  But I liked her dress. 

NOW, some of the photos are from the Oscars and some are from the viewing party and after party that Elton John gives each year.  Those clothes aren’t as dressy as the Oscars.  Sharon went to the After Party and not the actual Oscars.

Rita Moreno looked like a fright in the hat or wig or whatever it is.  Her outfit had potential, but it was ill fitting, too big, and too sexy for a woman in her 90s.

OMBRE TREND

 

Ombre dresses were seen for the first time – and I liked that look on this dress.  Catherine Goodman and skateboarder Tony Hawk.

   There were a lot of Bravo Housewives AND Reality Stars at the Oscar events.

HOUSEWIVES:

 

Dorit Kemsley looked gorgeous as usual.  Beautiful!

 

Kyle Richardson in a color block dress that is just ho hum. 

 

Erika Jayne also looked ho-hum in a suit.

 

I loved Kathy Hilton’s dress, her purse, the earrings, the hair – everything.  She looked beautiful.

 

As much as I can’t stand the tattoo head man (I find him positively scary) – Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian looked good together in all black.  Travis had on the trendy male accessory – a pin on his lapel. 

I’m so sick of Kim in those glasses and the Balenciaga dress and gloves.  It’s not flattering and I don’t understand why she keeps wearing different versions of this design.  They must be paying her a fortune to do  so.

THE TOO SEXY LOOK:

Breasts everywhere and thighs and waists exposed.   Many of the singers were dressed in clothes that revealed just too much.

 

  

Chloe Bail worn the newest sexy trend of the too-high slit.  Not a good look.

 

 

Christina Milian was falling out everywhere.

 

 

RED ON TREND:

 

    Molly Sims, overdone yet boring somehow.  What was with all these too large dresses????

 

Ariana DeBose.  The coat made her outfit look a little messy and the top was too revealing, but with a less revealing top, it would have been beautiful.

WHY?

Tracee Ellis Ross in Carolina Herrera.  Seriously?  Carolina?  I HATE these tiny patches over the breasts trend.  It is so unflattering.  Even she knew it because for her stage appearance she wore a top.  What I DO love is that you can see her shoes.  It’s a tad too short, but at least the dress is not too long!!!

 

Even the top doesn’t cover up the shameful bodice.

 

 

Jennifer Garner reminds me of Reese Witherspoon.  They are both gorgeous, but they need new stylists.  They just never look as good as they could.  Garner’s dress is just blah.

Red for the men too!  Carolina Herrera IRRC.

There were so many more red dresses, I could have shown 20 of them.  But let’s move on to the next color:  Orange.

 

She looks beautiful and her dress is perfect for her big event.

Aunjanue-Ellis

 

Couples have complicated dressing issues especially if the wife is not the star – she doesn’t want to upstage her husband.  But Paulette looks beautiful in this simple, but pretty and flattering dress.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT EVER, AGAIN.  

 

No one loves Kristen Stewart more than me.  And this award season – she looked so great – the best ever!  But this Oscar outfit was a huge disappointment.

The shorts were just too short.  Why not play up the shorts and wear them long, like a school boy?  But even the coat is so blah.  Chanel?  Really?

I think she knew it wasn’t her night and thought – I”m going to be comfortable.  But even the Chanel couldn’t compare to another one she wore to a recent award event.

 

   Look how wonderful this Chanel outfit looks compared to her Oscar Chanel. 

I think she knew Jessica had the award and she just didn’t care anymore.

The details of the outfit were beautiful – like this necklace.  Gorgeous.

The shirt had diamond buttons.

 

Dylan looked better than Kristen.

 

What she wore to the Critics Choice last week.  Flawless.  This should have been her Oscar dress. 

 

 

 

And here is her After Party dress.  I like this better too.  Her stylist Tara Swennen said Kristen wanted to wear the shorts and she wanted her to wear what she wanted to.  OK, Tara.

OK.  Moving on from Kristen.  It’s not the first time she disappointed her fans in her outfits, but it’s ok because when she doesn’t disappoint, she looks fabulous.

GOOD,  BUT NOT GREAT LOOKS.

 

 

    Venus Williams – she looked really pretty in this dress.   Her hair, the jewelry.  All good.

    Caitriona Balfe finally looks good in this Louis Vuitton.  But the dress is way too long.  Her jewelry is gorgeous.  Her hair looks good.  Just not a Best Dressed.

 

Zoe Kravitz in Yves St Laurent.  She always looks so pretty, it’s just her tattoos are really bad and distracting. 

 

 

I don’t know who made this dress, but I loved it – it is so different than all the others and so creative.

 

MISSED OPPORTUNITIES:

 

 

    This could have been wonderful but the extra shoulder fringe is just bad.

Those side appendages remind me of the Star Wars hair do.

Amy Schumer dress – I mean, you are hosting!  Wear a nice dress!

 

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Schiaparelli.  It’s a standout for sure.  But it’s just weird looking.

 

Ombre Gucci

Maybe she wanted to channel Tammy Faye.  The ombre dress is just too much, too swirly, too girly.  The tulle on the hem is really terrible.  I did love her hairdo.       

 

 

Her after party dress was nicer. 

 

 

Olivia’s dress was prettier in closeups – the fabric was really nice.  But the sleeves were too much.  She’s not exactly a fashion horse.

 

 

 

Hayley Erbert and Derek Hough – these dresses have the same fabric.

Poor Billie.  She is so beautiful, but this dress completely overpowers her.

  Sharon Stone started the trend when she wore this white shirt to the Oscars.

Even the Duchess of Sussex wore the look.

 

  Zendaya’s hair matched the direction of the skirt’s train.

 

The jewelry, everything.  Best Dressed of the Night.

 

Uh oh.  LOL.  Look who’s circling around.  Reminds me of when Jennifer Lawrence won her Oscar and all the old farts were coming for her.

Later that night – a completely different look.  Man’s suit, leather tie, slick hair.  Lapel pin.

She can do no wrong!   

 

And just because I’m so aggravated at the entire thing.  Jada was the worst dressed of the night.

 

  Actually, she is such a pretty woman but she needs a new stylist.  There wasn’t a dress this awards season that I thought was good looking.  This one looks like a plate of spinach.

   

 

Actually, Jada looked the best at the After Party.  All is forgiven for Will.  He was just so happy and partying while Chris Rock was probably nursing a sore face.  The police were called out and Chris refused to press charges.  Class act. 

It was just an insane night thanks to Will Smith.
