COTE DE TEXAS: Tag, I'm It - OY!

Tag, I'm It - OY!

ok, I've been putting this off, but I've been tagged a few times and I can't run and hide anymore. So, I hope I don't bore you too much. Here are eight facts about me that you didn't know or ever even wanted to know. I am going to throw in an free fun fact. That person above is MOI, ready to go to the beach, talking on the cell phone, as usual. I refuse to wear a cricket Bluetooth because they are SO ugly! For some reason I think a black cord hanging out from my face is prettier. Here goes 8 fun facts:

1) My husband is my best friend. We were born exactly 11 days apart, so we're both Scorpions and we are very much alike. We are both homebodies who say "there's no place like home" every time we get back from vacation. He lets me decorate my (our?) house all I want and never says a word about it - good or bad! He's much nicer than me, though. Wherever I go, people are so nice to me when they find out I'm married to Ben. Places like the dry cleaners and people like the Fed Ex man - everyone loves Ben. He's so cute, do you blame them? Here's Ben, talking on his cell phone:

2) I am a magazine junkie. I need a fix every day. I go from grocery store to bookstore to grocery store picking up copies of magazines. I don't like to subscribe to them because they don't come in the mail as early as the stores. The few magazines I do have subscriptions to, sometimes if I see the new issue in the store, I'll buy it anyway because I can't wait for it to be delivered to see it. That's sick, I know.

3) I'm also a political junkie. Democrat all the way, baby!!!! This picture of an elephant was taken by my nephew and niece this summer on their African safari:

4) My love of country french furniture comes from my mother, Betty Rae! For those who don't know me in real life, she's really my step-mother, but we don't like that word, step. The first time I ever saw French furniture was at her house and I've been hooked ever since. She has the best taste of anyone I've ever known. Thanks, BR!! This is a picture of my french day bed, my french chair inherited from Betty Rae, my french wine tasting table, and my french Buffet a Deux Corps:

5) I don't like food and never have. Neither does Ben. He eats cereal for dinner and he's happy with that. People don't get that I don't like food, but I only eat because I get low blood sugar. I eat the same thing every night for dinner because it's easy and I don't have to think about what to eat: Wendy's Caesar salad. I know, it's horrible and sad. You'd think I'd be skinny.

6) This is REALLY hard to do!!! ok, as I'm listening to the waves, I LOVE the beach. Ben and I are going to retire on a beach someday, hopefully sooner than later. That's our dream and always has been. No lake, no countryside, no mountains - it's the beach, any beach, any time. Our favorite beach - South Padre Island, Tx:

7) I don't care about clothes shopping. In fact, I hate to clothes shop. I only like to house shop. Ben says it's a bad day for me if money hasn't been exchanged some way. OK, I'll admit it, I'm addicted to shopping for my house. Candles, throws, antiques, design books, sconces, dishes, blue opaline, transferware, Masonware, flowers, etc. - anything that makes my house cosier, warmer, more cluttered, better smelling - I'll buy it. Here's an example of excessive buying:

8) And lastly, I wish I had had more children. Having one child makes the time as a mother go by too quickly. I loved being pregnant and I loved having a baby. I wish I could have done it more than once. I mean, who wouldn't want more of a child like this?

Ta da! I'm through and so are you. Thanks for sticking with it. So now, I have to tag 8 people. I have to think about who.

Joni aka Cote de France

  1. Joni- Too funny! I'm with you on the magazines- I'm at the bookstore everyday buying magazines. It's an illness!!!! (And I agree about the Bluetooth. Hate it! I pawned mine off on someone and got the thing with the cord- much better!)

  2. Good Morning to the Beach Baby! Another set of Sea-and-Beach addicts here in North Texas too! We'll be heading to Maine in the fall. And I totally agree with the Magazine and Decor Book addiction -- just delivered a stack of older ones to Half-Price Books because the book shelves were getting full again! And this very small house can't hold every single book -- much to my dismay! LOL! A great day is when a fresh new decor book or magazine arrives in the door -- then a fresh pot of tea is made, soft music is on and the candles are lit -- more like seduction than mere reading! And the pre-orders for the upcoming additions in the fall season (and the holidays) are already in at Amazon -- can't wait for the new ones from Bunny Williams or Himes Gomez -- LOL!

Jan x at Rosemary Cottage -- who could spend hours reading and shopping for the house too! But does love to eat .....darn it all!

  3. Hi Joni
I wished we lived closer together and we could indulge our shopping addictions together and afterwards I could make you a proper supper, because I love to cook. Thanks for sharing with us.

  4. So fun to learn more about you Joni!!! I'm with you and the addiction to magazines. Although, I love food, I usually eat the same thing for lunch everyday, and don't get sick of it.

  5. OK, so everyone loves to eat! Too bad. just kidding. Everyone loves magazines and books. I LOVE the line about preorders at Amazon! Yes!!! Bunny Williams in on m preorder list too, but I didn't know that Marietta has a new one coming up. Yes! I love all of you and ROsemary, what is your EMAIL????? Patricia - I wish we could go shopping together. I read your list of favorite things like sheets and bath towels.

  6. Ha!
We are the opposite of your #1.
I am soooo much nicer and more popular than my hubs ;)

    OK, I will play tonight....

  7. Agree about the magazines... I just found that there is an international "news-stand" here and I haven't gone in because if I do, I know I will drop some serious change on UK & French design mags. Too scary.

  8. Joni

    One Belle Vie!
I'm with you on the magazines. I need an empty suitcase to haul all the ones back I buy when in France!
And what better place to enjoy them
    than on the beach!

  9. i feel your magazine addiction. i'm so fearful that when i die, i'll be surrounded by stacks and stacks of magazines with only a maze to find me.

i too eat to stave off l.b.s. (that' what we call it around here) i like food. but pretty much i eat not to get crabby.

  10. What a lucky day to happen onto your blog~ Now I know everything about you... well, 8 things anyway.
I think the cell phone cord is very slimming, and if you don't need anything more than a wendy's salad more power to you.
I will retire happy if all I hear in the morning is the sound of the ocean, and the coffee pot perking.
I'll be back~ if I can find my way.

  11. hate to eat and your hubby too! how luck you are...soooo very lucky! I soo much love food and my husband feels abused if he doesn't get a nightly steak! but i have alot of problems in the kitchen and my motto is "Life Is Too Short To Cook!"

  12. This is really fascinating -- I haven't really heard of not enjoying food. Myself, I often eat simply, i.e. steamed brocolli and carrots, without any butter or any kind kind of condiment, but it's because I really want to get back to the passions I have in life -- Performing music, theatre, art, dance, etc. and I can't really afford the time it takes to make something delicious, (or work it off). But I love food. I think life would be simpler if we always ate just to be healthy, so we could focus on the activities which really enrich our lives in a soulful, evolving way.
