The Sayles Ranch Guest Houses: Cotton Eye Joe
Last July I told you about the Sayles Ranch Guest Houses in Abilene, Texas HERE. The owner, Terry Browder, had recently remodeled one of the houses called the Cotton Eye Joe. The redo was remarkable for all the wonderful ideas Browder used throughout, especially his treatments on the walls and floors.
Mr. Browder is now graciously offering a giveaway contest to Cote de Texas readers. One lucky reader will win a 2 night weekend at the Cotton Eye Joe, redeemable within the next 12 months (subject to availability.) The Cotton Eye Joe rents for $395 per night, so the value of the contest is $790.00. And remember, there are three bedrooms, so there is a lot of room for a group of people.
A flat screen TV is hiding behind the map above the mantel at the Cotton Eye Joe.
Browder states that while many think Abilene is at the end of the earth, it is really centrally located: “3 hours from Dallas, 4 from Austin and San Antonio, and 5 from Houston. It's a delightful place for the winner to bring their family, or friends. We have a lot of women do "Girlfriend Getaway"weekends, where friends from college, or sisters, etc meet for a fun weekend of non serious antique shopping, fabulous food and such.”
And, in more exciting news from Abilene: a new Sayles guest house is almost finished being renovated. It’s a loft space that was once a 1957 ballet studio. The color scheme is gray, French blue and turquoise and it features a stained concrete floors in a striped pattern just like a dhurri rug. Hopefully, we’ll have pictures of the new space soon.
The dining room at the Cotton Eye Joe, featuring a set of antique chairs and settee upholstered in the fabric of an old quilt.
So, how to win? Simply go to www.saylesranch.com and look over ALL their available guest houses - then come back here to leave a comment telling us which guesthouse you like the best. That’s it. I’ll name the winner this weekend!
A huge thank you to Terry Browder for this fun giveaway.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteA very tough decision....!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Falling Star looks so cozy and restful, but I think I have to go with Cotton Eye Joe as my first choice. I love that it is filled with light.

The Cotton Eye Joe!!!! Light and bright is always my preference!
ReplyDeleteThe Cotton Eye Joe looks great! Really like the carriage house, Cabin Fever, too!
ReplyDeleteThey're all so cool! But, I'm lovin' the Cotton Eyed Joe the best!
ReplyDeleteczestes@msn.com
My favorite is Cotton Eyed Joe!!! Feel faint looking at those finishes and the quilt backed dining chairs!!! Can't wait to see the photos of the next beautiful guest house being worked on. Terry Browder has an amazing and inspiring eye!!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to pick the Cotton Eye Joe. Beautiful. I grew up in West Texas and love the idea of a relaxing stay in Abilene with my family. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteLOVE Cabin Fever - especially the use of Tin on the walls!!!
ReplyDeleteYippee Ki Yay!!! I would love to win the stay at the fabulous Sayles Ranch and bring my husband and 4 other couples to enjoy a fun-filled trip to Texas to the Ranch. We are celebrating our 35 wedding anniversary this year and this would be a great way to celebrate with our closests friends. It would be an anniversary celebration we wouldn't forget!
ReplyDeleteThese Guesthouses are upscale and looks so luxurious. We might not ever want to leave!
What a great time in the state of Texas we would have. We are all from Wisconsin and we would feel like real Texans staying here and having a terrific time enjoying the area and seeing your beautiful state. Thank you for the chance to win this wonderful contest..I hope we will get the chance to come and visit!!
Cotton Eye Joe is perfect, Falling Star is a close second Can't wait to stay in Texas.
ReplyDeleteSuch an amazing place! Digging the Sayles Ranch
ReplyDeleteTwo Favorites:
ReplyDeleteThe Cotton Eye Joe cabin is so chic...country elegance. I love the color palatte and the cabin's light and airy feeling...and the monogrammed dining seating!
The Falling Star cabin is also a favorite. As a little girl growing up in West Texas, I was drawn to the mysterious world of Native Americans and Indian Chiefs.
All of the cabins are warm and inviting. What an awesome giveaway!
Cabin Fever but they all are so beautiful! What a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteObviously the one featured here is to-die but of the ones on the site I would say Falling Star is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI'm torn between the Hideout and Cotten Eye Joe - leaning a little toward the Hideout - the name says it all! Karen
ReplyDeleteSo hard to chose one!!! Love the Cotton Eyed Joe! Mainly because right now I'm looking for light and bright in my own decor. My second choice would be FALLING STAR LODGE! Love the use of modern art and the lodge theme decor....really nice!
ReplyDeleteI think falling star lodge is beautiful!

ReplyDeleteThat's a tough choice - I'm leaning toward Cotton Eyed Joe, but Cabin Fever is a close second. You wouldn't catch me complaining about any of them, they're all lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the generous give-away, Mr. Browder - it's so kind to share!
All are incredible, but I have to say my favorite would be The Cotton Eye Joe. I love the floors throughout and would love to stay in one of those beautiful rooms!
ReplyDeleteI love them all, but I would choose the Falling Star Lodge. I would love to stay in the guest house and visit Abilene! Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI'm really loving Cabin Fever - so many different textures everywhere! Looks very cozy!
ReplyDeleteCotton Eye Joe is my fave! I love Cabin Fever too! The mix of old and new is so well executed. The bins of boots and hats at Sayles Ranch are such a festive touch!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love Cotten Eye Joe!!!! The lightness and airy-ness is very appealing. The Sayles Ranch is really cool for a bigger group though. Falling Star is cool too! They're all fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThe Cotton Eye Joe is beautiful! Rustic and airy! That's a hard combo to achieve.
ReplyDeleteThe Cotton Eye Joe is beautiful and another favorite because I know my seven-year-old would love the loft, is Cabin Fever.
ReplyDeleteThe Cotton Eye Joe is delightful, and I've oft thought about the side table in the living room and the dining room upholstery since your last post. What a wonderful opportunity!
ReplyDeleteAll of the Sayles Ranch Guesthouses are lovely and have their own charm.
The Sayles Ranch was my original pick, especially as let's face it -they are ALL fabulous, and the Sayles Ranch has limestone walls, (swoon), so much visual interest (Dying to see that room with the twin bed up close) and comes equipped with a pool! If only those great boots were available too? Let's face it - any place describes as John Wayne at Starbucks begs for further exploration!
Truly, I'd so enjoy touring all of these, if only to experience all the gorgeous light fixtures up close.
I. Am. Obsessed.
I love how Cabin Fever is tucked away in the alley and has that fabulous kitchen, tin work, loft and light coming in from what seems to be everywhere! That Joan Crawford's Husband was an original contractor?
I cant stop thinking about the Falling Star Lodge's kitchen cabinetry - can you?
The Hideout bed is just darling, and I'm dying to see the antique convent doors to the private courtyard. Divine!
Sigh...
Fingers Crossed!
I love the Falling Star Lodge because that jar painting in the second photo is amazing and I want to see it in person! But I would have to go with the Sayles Ranch to hold all of the inlaws that live in Brownwood!
ReplyDeleteCotton Eye Joe for me. What a great place to visit!
ReplyDeleteSayles Ranch is amazing. We have never been to Texas before and this would be a wonderful experience for a New Yorker for sure!!!
ReplyDeleteFalling Star, Falling Star, Falling Star! Wow...the whole place is great. We love Abilene too!
ReplyDeleteI live in Austin and this would be the perfect escape from my children. Pick me! Pick me! :)
ReplyDeleteThe Cotton Eye Joe is stunning, but I also like Cabin Fever with its gorgeous kitchen and bathroom.
Thanks Terry and Joni for such a wonderful giveaway!
I love Cabin Fever -- it looks so cozy!
ReplyDeleteIf we're allowed to vote for Cotton Eye Joe, that's my absolute favorite. If only the houses on the website are included, I would have to say Cabin Fever. Adorable! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWow! I like the cabin hide out...
ReplyDeletewhat a cute kitchen!
Thanks for the chance to win such a great getaway!
Becky M

Cabin Fever is warm and cozy!! But they are all amazing!
ReplyDelete-oetgirl@hotmail.com
Cotton Eye Joe!! I'm afraid if I went I would never leave. Although the kitchen at Cabin Fever is AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteI love Cabin Fever, the decor, the loft, the courtyard, next door to the ranch and a bit of Joan Crawford family legacy to boot!
ReplyDeleteI'm an east coast girl always wondering what does Texas really look like? :)
What an exciting giveaway!
Wow! What fun looking at all the personality in these true re"treats".
ReplyDeleteHands down, I appreciate the light sophisticated whimsy in the Cotton Eye Joe. The Cabin is special too with the cozy back alley location, use of tin and authentic ranch touches. All so Beautiful!! lisa
* Joni, what a NEAT, GENEROUS person Terry must be~~~ such a fabulous gift!!! And since Jim commanded 2/7 CAV at Ft. Hood (George Custer's Battalion), we could visit THOSE ol' "stomping grounds" on the trip, too!
ReplyDeleteThe Cotton Eye Joe HAS to be MY fave (Ooh! That rugged round table is sooo to-die-for!)... it's all just so "sophisticatedly" (my own word, of course!) western, with such great S*T*Y*L*E!!! Yessireebob, now THAT's just MY kinda place!
The Cabin Fever would be another good choice, as would ANY of the others, but yep, I ADORE the Cotton Eye Joe... "fer suuure"!!!
... Crossing my fingers n' polishing up my J. B. Hills after signing off... (now THAT'S "thinking positively"!!!)~ SMILES!~
Hugs n' thanks,

ReplyDeleteThe Sayles Ranch would be awesome if I could posse up enough girlfreinds. Love the pool.
The Falling Star would be great for a smaller group. Love the art work in there.
The Hideout would be wonderful for a get away for me and my husband.
Thanks for this opportunity.
Kindest regards,

Love this giveaway! What a place! I could just crawl into one of those beds right now....
ReplyDeleteI love Falling Star...could totally see my boys chatting away in those two twin beds...and the porch rocks for happy hour.
But I must say I truly love Sayles Ranch....the pool is marvelous and that bunkhouse would make my kids day. They would be in heaven. :)
The cotton eyed joe is by far my favorite but Cabin Fever has a great kitchen!
ReplyDeleteWe live in Georgetown, TX, not far from Austin, so we could "roundup" a "posse", and "hit the trail"...LOVE Cotten Eyed Joe"..the very best...so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAs an interior designer, I was salavating...
Sayles Ranch. Although I love love the Cotton Eye Joe too.
ReplyDeleteI love the use of tin in Cabin Fever! Keeping my fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the new one "Cotton Eye Joe" - the others, while beautiful, are too 'lodgy' for this Anglophile! I am originally from Lubbock and remember going through/to Abilene a LOT in my youth!
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love the Cotton Eye Joe! Or Sayles Ranch!
ReplyDeleteWhats not to love!
Love Cotton Eye Joe, but I'm a fan of the hideout too. Very Ralph Lauren last fall! :) Gorgeous! You know my mom still lives in San Angelo - just about 80 miles from Abilene. This would be a great gift for her. A little getaway for her after having to take care of my grandfather all this time. Keeping my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteI love the kitchen in Cabin Fever. Mix of rustic and modern. Love the use of the tin as the counter to ceiling backsplash.
ReplyDeleteOops..here's my email...lepodz@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI love them all, but Cotton Eye Joe is fabulous. I'd love to stay there. (I was born in Abilene while my dad was going to college there, but haven't been back since I was a baby. Would be fun to visit!)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Cotton Eye Joe! STUNNING!
ReplyDeleteGosh, it was really hard to narrow it down to just one because I like things from all of them!!!! If I *had* to pick though it would be the Sayles Ranch guest house....beautiful! Keeping my fingers crossed that I am the lucky winner becuase DH and I had such a back in April when we visited Texas for the first time that we are just dying for an excuse to go back :o)

ReplyDeleteI love the Sayles Ranch! It would be wonderful to have your own private pool! Actually, they're all wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMy pick would be the Falling Star Lodge. I love a screened in porch!
ReplyDeleteDeeDee Bundy
deedeebundy@hotmail
As a born and raised Texan now living in California I loved Cabin Fever. The Texas maps, star pillows on the twin beds, and all the decor brought me back home to Texas. And the Ralph Lauren book (love Ralph Lauren) on the table was a great addition. Sayles Ranch looks like a beautiful property.
ReplyDeleteI'm partial to small spaces so I would pick The Hideout. The furnishings in Falling Star Lodge are lovely, and that cupboard with all the drawers could keep one entertained all night!
ReplyDeleteI love the Hideout. Great kitchen,
ReplyDeleteCotton Eyed Joe would be my first choice, of course! From the options on their website, I'd pick Sayles Ranch.
ReplyDeleteSayles Ranch is so pretty. I would love to stay there. Plus it would be a great drive from Austin.
ReplyDeleteI'm originally from about an hour outside of Abilene so it makes me happy to see business still thriving in West Texas.
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favorite is the Cotton Eyed Joe because it strays from the typical cowboy boots and hat decor everyone associates Texas with. My dad is a cotton farmer so I especially love the use of the cotton stalks in the arrangement in the living room.
Great job Sayles Ranch!
I love the Cotton Eye Joe! I love the way they have hidden the flat screen TV, yet have instant access to it. Clever!
ReplyDeleteI'm liking all the light colors of Cotton Eye Joe! Though...Sayles Ranch cabin has the pool. This would be fabulous to win cause it'd be a trip "home" as I'm a Texas girl transplanted to Oklahoma.
ReplyDeleteThey are all so fun, but the one that jumped out at me today was Cabin Fever.
ReplyDeleteI really love the Cabin Fever house! It is beautiful with the decor; I love love love the antique ceiling tin! My hubbie and I could totally use a vacation from the craziness that has been this year :)Thank you for offering this giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThe Hide Out please. Love the give-away!
ReplyDeleteHow great!! This would be the perfect getaway and easy trip from Dallas!! I love the cotton eye joe or sayles ranch.
ReplyDeleteSayles Ranch is my favorite. Private swimming pool, sign me up!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the Cotton Eye Joe. Thank you to Terry Browder, so sweet to give it away!
ReplyDeleteI adore the interior of "Cotten Eye Joe". But I also really like the pitched ceilings of "Cabin Fever".
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteLove Sayles Ranch but how can you go wrong? They are all wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThey are all so tastefully decorated in the theme. My choice would have to be the Sayles Ranch Guesthouse. I went to school in Lubbock so a getaway back to West Texas would be wonderful! The view of the stars in West Texas can't be beat. What a generous giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWell... it's gotta be the Falling Star Lodge for me! I had a great Aunt that we used to visit in Abilene! What a great giveaway Joni! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI love Cotton Eye Joe! Falling Star Lodge is amazing too...I can't choose between the two!!I've never been to the US, This would make a dream family vacation!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Falling Star. Perfection in Texas!
ReplyDeleteThey are all so inviting! My pick would be Cabin Fever because I have a big case of it and it would be a wonderful family retreat environment.
ReplyDeletewell how fun and gracious joni and terry........suddenly abilene is on my mind :-)
ReplyDeletefirst off that renovation is stunning and the detailing so spot on but the gliding map that conceals the tv is sheer brilliance.

thanks!

The Cotton Eye Joe is exactly how I want my own home to look. I can see myself enjoying the screened in porch at the Falling Star. What a wonderful place Sayles Ranch is! Thanks for the chance to win this amazing treat!
ReplyDeleteI really love the Cotton Eye Joe, but I also love the Sayles Ranch. It is a higher end look, with a rustic feel. I love the leather sofa. I think the dining room is wonderful with the cowhide backed chairs and the deer antler chandelier.
ReplyDeleteI love them all - so cozy - but I'd say Falling Star is my fav! Plus, there's enough room there to invite friends and have a perfect getaway weekend. Thanks for the opportunity for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMichelle
mhillman77@gmail.com
I love the Falling Star Lodge. It seems like every time you sat down and looked around the room you'd see something new and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the old west decor...all the interiors looked like they could have been done by Leftover Antiques in Brenham. The small kitchen with the refrigerator in front of the window in Cabin Fever was especially cozy. Regards
ReplyDeleteLiked them all but Falling Star Lodge is my favorite. Great decor throughout.
ReplyDeleteI loved the Sayles Ranch! The details were fabulous and I do think there was a cowboy under the pool water there since his hat was on the surface. A bonus! What a lovely getaway site! Suzie
ReplyDeletehow do you choose? I love lofts though so I think cabin fever or sayles ranch
ReplyDeletedoes it get any better than this?
ReplyDeletei love cabin fever! what a sweet hideaway. this year is my 10 year wedding anniversary--wouldn't this be a great getaway?!
As Eva Cassidy sang:
ReplyDeleteFever in the morning and fever all through the night, you give me fever,,, Cabin Fever that is!!! I would glady stay at any of them. My girlfriends and I from grade school just celebrated our 30 year class reunion and are coming upon our 50th Birthdays. What a place to celebrate. Eat - sleep -- swoon over the decor-- and shop !!! Cabin Fever - Love the barn loft look; metal ceiling tile walls
ReplyDeletekc ripper
I have to go with CABIN FEVER, and imagine spending some time there enjoying every minute.
ReplyDeleteI don't even have to look! It's "Cotton Eye Joe", hands down! I just read through your blog about it, yesterday, and thought how great it would be for my Husband and I to stay there. We've not had a vacation in two years...he's currently doing relief work in Haiti...and I'm going to show this to him when he gets home next week; see if I can entice him!
ReplyDeleteMaybe??? :D
I think they hall have something great to offer. The Hideaway was a little small for my tastes, but they are all georgous!!
ReplyDeleteThey are all pretty fabulous! Looks like my favorite is Sayles Ranch - that kitchen and a private pool - we'd never leave the guesthouse! Good luck to everyone~
ReplyDeleteCabin fever is bomb. Love it.
ReplyDeleteLove. Love. LOVE them ALL! Today my fav is Cotten Eyed Joe. Tomorrow it could be Sayles Ranch or the Hideout. Too cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Patti
Cotton Eyed Joe (so far anyway)!
ReplyDeleteThe Sayles Ranch would be a great place to spend time catching up with family. Especially with the pool.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool giveaway! I love the Sayles Ranch the best. drbabymamadrama at gmail dot com.
ReplyDeleteThe Sayles Ranch would be a great place to get to know the "girlfriends" parents. My son lives in Dallas so it would be a great getaway for us all.
ReplyDeleteSince I have a big family, the Ranch would be my choice!
ReplyDeleteI love the Falling Star b/c of the fabulous porch. It looks so cozy and relaxing.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to beat that table made from a tree in the Cotton Eye Joe house, but I also liked the antler chandelier in the Sayles Ranch.
ReplyDeletemartih at usa dot com

ReplyDeleteHope all is well Joni!
L.
I love Cabin Fever - especially the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteFalling Star is like a Ralph Lauren ad come to life. The warmth of the wood on the walls, the farmhouse table with gramma's oak chairs, the antlers, the worn leather, what's not to love?
ReplyDeleteCotton Eyed Joe looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe Sayles Ranch would be a perfect get-away for our family...there are 10 of us now with all our "new" sons!
ReplyDeletecotton eye joe looks pretty perfect to me, but if i had to choose another it would definitely be sayles ranch.
ReplyDeleteThe decor in Cabin Fever is spectacular! I would love to spend a cozy fall weekend there with friends and few bottles of good wine!
ReplyDeleteCotton Eye Joe and Cabin Fever! What a generous thing to do!
ReplyDeleteHere's my impressions-- I loved the overall look of Cabin Fever-- especially the kitchen, loft & tin wall treatment. I love the size of Sayles for a good-sized group of close friends & especially the idea of a private swimming pool to protect the general public from the shock of middle-aged thighs. The Falling Star Lodge's screened porch looks like a great place to practice the lost art of conversation, and what is that interesting chest of little drawers? Overall, I love the quilts, the unique bathroom treatments and eclectic mix of furniture and styles throughout the guest houses. Did I mention middle-aged thighs back there? I really meant to say beautiful, buff members of the Sisterhood of the Comfy Socks. [aka a small, unofficially disorganized group of good friends]
ReplyDeletethe cotton eyed joe would make a great place for a girls' get together. thanks, terry and cote de texas!
ReplyDeleteCotton Eye Joe
ReplyDeletejodikrueger@gmail.com
I love them all, but particularly Cabin Fever, built by Joan Crawford's daddy. What history!
ReplyDeleteI love the Cotton Eye Joe! As one of my Michigan friends who winters in Texas says, "I may not be a Texan, but I got there as soon as I could!"
ReplyDeleteOops, if I win, let me know at nancymason55@gmail.com. I loved Cabin Fever!
ReplyDeleteLove The Falling Star!!
ReplyDeleteFalling Star! Thanks for the fabulous giveaway!

ReplyDeleteI love the screened-in porch at Falling Star - the perfect place for enjoying some apple cider on an early fall evening!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous giveaway! I love them all, but Sayles is my favorite! The John Wayne meets Starbucks is so clever and cute.
ReplyDeleteSayles Ranch. I am a modern at heart and love how you have married the different styles!
ReplyDeleteI'm especially fond of Cabin Fever. :) Plus I'm in Texas so it wouldn't be hard for us to get there!
ReplyDeletePick me! Pick me!
I have been blessed to be inside each of Terry's guesthouses. (to photograph, not stay) To choose just one would be near impossible. Terry's gift for bringing the rustic and the elegant together to create amazingly enveloping spaces simply awes me! If I had to chose, I suppose City Slickers and Cotton Eye Joe "enchanted" me the most. I would LOVE to "get away" to one of Terry's "wonderlands!" Thanks, Jodi, for sharing his talent with your readers. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteFalling Star - love that big porch!
ReplyDeleteCabin Fever is my favorite. I love the use of antique ceiling tin on the walls of the kitchen and bathroom.
ReplyDeleteLove Cotton Eyed Joe! Light and bright colors but still keeping with the feel of Texas. Well done.

I've "fallen" for the Fallen Star Lodge. Its "quintessential" Native American decor is amazing!
ReplyDeleteHow on earth do you decide? They are ALL fabulous!! I really like the pics you displayed of the Cotton Eye Joe, but I didn't see that as a choice on saylesranch website. Therefore...drum roll, please...I chose Cabin Fever! Seriously, that's not a first pick, as ALL are stellar, both in design and amenities. Hope I'm chosen! I would love to spend a couple of nights in Abilene!!
