COTE DE TEXAS: A Few Cute Apartments In Paris

A Few Cute Apartments In Paris

image
A typical Chez Vous apartment, designed by Myra Hoefer.  Chez Nous has the best looking apartments for tourist rental.

There are so many furnished apartments available for short time lease in Paris, one wonders are there any apartments left for the Parisians?   Myself, I love staying in a hotel – the more stars the better, but the ability to do that does depend on how good business is that month!    There’s nothing better than room service, high thread count sheets, marble bathrooms, and newly refurbished décor (unless you are talking about NYC with its bedbug infestation!  Yuck!!!)     Still, apparently lots of tourists prefer to stay in apartments while visiting Paris.   The reasons vary but mostly, you feel like you actually live in the city as opposed to being an obnoxious tourist.   Prices for the better apartments aren’t necessarily cheaper than a hotel, but room service charges can add up quickly, turning a reasonable hotel rate into one that rivals the national debt.   Staying in an apartment alleviates that problem.
I love looking at the available apartments, there are so many that you can quickly kill an entire day fantasizing about which apartment would be the one you would choose.  Some are fabulously beautiful.   The rental company, Chez Vous, has without a doubt the prettiest ones – decorated by San Francisco interior designer Myra Hoefer – their apartments are cuter than most of our houses with their flowing, luscious taffeta curtains and clean, slipcovered sofas.   Go here to pick out your favorite  Chez Vous home away from home.
Other good sources are Paris Perfect, Paris Prime Rentals, Paris Luxe Apartments, and Alacarte Paris Apartments.    While there are thousands of available furnished apartments for tourists – beware, most are not fabulous or even pretty!   The furnishings in many are awful, old, and just not appealing - they are desirable solely because they are in Paris.  Just like looking at real estate listings in the states, you have to wade through much ugliness to find the good Parisian apartment listings.    .
Despite looking at a lot of mediocre rentals,  I did find quite a few I loved.  Unfortunately, most I liked had photos that are too small or blurry to show here, but I did find a nice selection with larger images.   Below are some of those apartments that made me want to go pack my bags and fly over this weekend.   Enjoy!

APARTMENT 1:
image
Yes!  I love the icy blue/gray interiors in this grand apartment with its beautiful hardwood floors and elegant moldings.  This listing is from Haven in Paris, which has quite a few luxury listings.

image
I love the beautiful taffeta curtains.  Three bedrooms and bathrooms – at just 5,ooo Euros a week.

image
Lots of white washed furniture – you can tell it was recently remodeled.  I love the grand entry hall.

image
I guess someone could sleep on the day bed too?

image
One of the three bedrooms.

APARTMENT 2:
image
This studio apartment is located on Ile Saint Louis, an island in the middle of Paris.   Special Apartments has the listing.

image
The building is 18th century (my favorite!) and the stairs make me wonder if there is not an elevator?  Many buildings do not have elevators, so if that is a concern, be sure to check that detail.    Other important details to confirm – washer dryer, dishwasher, WiFi connection, and television.

image
This is a really cute studio which was remodeled a few years ago.   The wall between the bedroom and living room is open.

image
I love the original stone walls and the windows are beautiful.   Notice the niche shelf in the stone wall.    The sofa is a sleeper.

image
Nice for a couple or a single person traveling alone.

APARTMENT 3:
image
Remodeled by an architect/decorator, this one caught my eye because it seems so authentic looking.  Listing HERE.

image
The building in on the Right Bank and is 17th century!  The décor is really attractive.

image
Beautiful taffeta curtains and antiques, such as the armoire.   Love the fireplace.

image
There is only one bedroom, but the sofa is a sleeper and there are two bathrooms.

image
The courtyard.

APARTMENT 4:
image
This is actually not an apartment, but a private hotel!  Located in a 15th century house, it sleeps 10 people – so bring the whole family.   If not, the bedrooms can be individually rented.  Totally refurbished and restored,  the house is filled with French antiques.  It is located on Rue de Montmorency in the Marais district.

image
That fireplace!   I love all the antiques!  A chef comes with house, as does WiFi.

image
Beautiful tapestry.   Notice the old marble floor.

image
The iron bannister is beautiful.

image
Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

image
Another bedroom.

image
There are a total of five bedrooms in the house.

image
Another bedroom with antique rugs and venetian styled wallpaper.

image
One of the modernized bathrooms.  For more information, go HERE.

  APARTMENT 5:
image
This apartment is located in a 17th century house that was once owned by a noble family and is now an historical monument.  Listing is HERE.

image
Gorgeous stairs with marble floors.  The apartment is on the nobile floor – or the 2nd floor.

image
It is filled with French antiques and is very elegant, not trendy at all.   There is no gray painted furniture found here.

image
This is what I think of when I imagine how a French family lives.

image
A glimpse into the bedroom through the open doors.  Love the chilled champagne waiting!

image
There are three bedrooms.  This is probably truly the dining room.

image
The other two bedrooms are in a loft area – not quite as grand, but still charming.

image
Wow.  The view of the River Seine from one of the smaller bedrooms.   Does it get any better than this???

APARTMENT 6:
image
Many of the apartments are furnished with trendy painted faux antiques –  furniture from Blanc d’Ivoire for example.  This apartment has recently been decorated with the trendiest of the trendy.  Still, it is very cute!

image
The apartment is located on the Left Bank.  There is one bedroom and elevator access.

image
The kitchen opens to the living area.

image
It is all very tastefully done and is very clean looking.    When looking at pictures, be sure to check if there is carpet rather than flooring.  Carpet tends to get dirty looking quickly.

image
The bathroom is incredible with its curved, tiled wall.

image
Breakfast outside!  More information is HERE.

APARTMENT 7:
image
Are all the views in Paris this good?  It seems like it!!!

image
This elegant apartment is large.  A third bedroom can be rented as a studio.

image
This apartment is located on the Ile Saint Louis and is surrounded by the Seine.   It has been recently updated.

image
Overlooking the elegant dining room.

image
I love how all the dining rooms have fireplaces – so romantic.   This is so French looking!

image
One of the large bedrooms.   Gah.  Sooooo pretty.

image
A fireplace in the bathroom!  Wow.

image
This bedroom can be rented alone as a studio.

image
I could be happy with just this room!   Notice the balcony over looking the Seine.   The link to this apartment is HERE.

And finally, last July, I showed you this apartment for rent in Paris HERE.
image
Filled with antiques and gray  painted faux antiques, the apartment is charmingly decorated.   A few weeks ago, I got an email from a reader who actually rented this apartment after reading about it here.   She and her mother went to Paris – and she was kind enough to send me photos from their trip.

image
The reader took this picture of the café right near the apartment.

image
The nearby flower shop she and her mother visited.

A snapshot of the bedroom in the apartment.   Thank you so much for sharing these!!

If you happen to book one of the apartments shown here, please send your photos – I would love to see them.

  1. Joni: Thanks for showing these. They are so inspiring. Europe just doesn't look like America, does it? Apartment #2 is my favorite because it seems to be so well planned and such a innovative use of the space. The 5th photo of Apartment #4 that has the caption, "Gorgious!!!!" is my all time favorite. It has such a sophisticated use of color, pattern and texture.

  2. Just when I get a hankering to start making travel plans for the year. I love 1,3, and 4. Now if only the Concord was still flying. Thanks for the beautiful and informative post.

  3. As all but the most extravagant Parisian hotel rooms are so teeny, renting an apartment makes sense for a lot of visitors, especially if there are three or more in the group.

  5. Wow, there are some great apartments here, I'm familiar with the company Haven in Paris, and always recommend them.
As a family we have long had the habit of renting an apartment when visiting a city rather than going for a hotel. We appreciate the freedom of movement, the extra space and the feeling of living in the town for a few days. When we're in an apartment, we tend to eat out 3 times a day, thus seeing even more of the city.
    Great post

Thanks so much for sharing my pics! I am so flattered!!!

This is a great post. I love staying in a posh hotel too, but we said over and over again that we would rent an apartment again no doubt. It was such a personal experience. And this place was even better in person. It truly was *special*.

    Lots of love,

  9. I LOVE #1 and the last apartment your reader rented. My boys would have these places trashed in not time -- busts, vases, and other accents smashed to pieces. I can see why they don't accept young children. Your introductory apartment looks pretty family friendly. Guess we'll just have to wait til they're in college. Great post!

  10. I would have such a difficult time deciding which one to rent. They are all so beautiful.

  19. We are renting an apartment in April from Haven in Paris near where we used to live. The apartment idea works for us as my husband wants to go to his favorite outdoor markets and cook a bit...and invite friends over. Our son, daughter and my sister are coming, too. This posts is getting me excited!

  27. If I ever rented any of these apartments in Paris, they'd have to evict me forcibly at the end of my stay. I'd be careening around making a glorious ass of myself in my little beret, speaking my high school franglais in my best Pepe le Pew accent, fooling myself that the Parisians mistake me for one of their own...

I am in love with the dark, dramatic, bohemian decorating in Apartment 4, and I was hooked even before I read that it comes with a private French chef. Then I saw the view of the Seine from Apartment 5, and I was overcome with longing. When I was in Paris last year, walking along the Seine, I'd look up at those windows and wonder about the lucky people who lived with that majestic, historic vista of Paris just beyond their balconies. You mean, for a price, it could be ME for a week?!

Also, I'm in love with the bold embroidered stripe drapery fabric in Apartment 7, the photo you commented "Gah, so pretty!" These draperies say to me, "Yes, I am striped and flowered and pink, but I am still sophisticated and chic beyond compare -- I am FRENCH!"

    ReplyDelete
  28. Great post! My friend actually rented a place through Chez Vouz and had a wonderful experience.....clearly their apartments are a notch above. Anything french is fabulous in my book!
I just returned home from Paris and just put up my post about my visit, including lots of fabulous pictures from this amazing city...hope you will take a look. Fantastic post...really enjoyed it and it so makes me want to get on a plane and go back! I will take apartment #7!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. All these apartments are fabulous and if they came with a maid, doorman and concierge all the better. I go on holiday to stay in a hotel where someone makes the bed rather then me but these are fabulous, gorgeous alternatives.

  33. Numbers 1 and 2. Oh my goodness. Just beautiful.

  41. Joni, I just got back from 3 months in Paris renting a furnished apartment from an agency I'd highly recommend, Vingt Paris. My apartment in the Marais was decorated in the more modern European style, very clean, lots of custom touches. I nearly cried when I had to leave (ok, I did cry, a few times!). Here's a link (sniff sniff!): http://www.vingtparis.com/marais-temple-balcony.html

  48. ..oh joni...once you have been to paris...your heart just never leaves...all of these are so lovely...however...if you could do your special magic...do you have anyway of finding more information on the paris apartment that was discovered untouched after 70 years...a young french woman left paris for the south of france after hitler took the city...she left behind her grandmother's apartment... never to return...when she died at the age of 92 the apartment was discovered...she had paid the rent faithtfully all those years...and better yet the apartment remained a time capsule...filled with her grandmother's furniture... love letters ...and unbelievably...a token of her grandmother's beauty ....a portrait of her worth millions of euros...this has been haunting me for months...can you find out any more of the story...oh what it must have felt like to enter that space... to throw open the curtains and have sunlight fill the rooms for more than seventy years...a true romantic mystery preserved for over 70 years...now those are the parisian walls i want to walk into...

  53. I have stayed in one of the Chez Vous apartments. This one:
    http://www.chezvous.com/apartments.php?id=34&sort=arrondissement&select=6

It was as darling as pictured. My 3 girlfriends and I packed in there. 2 slept in the loft upstairs, 2 on the sofa/trundle bed downstairs. We had wine/cheese parties every night in our bras and skirts (it was early September, no a/c!) while we showered and dressed for dinner. One of the best trips of my life!

I recently went back in October with my boyfriend and stayed in another apartment on the Ile St. Louis and loved it. I also came home with a fiance...

Paris is in my heart forever. What a wonderful city.

  59. Ohhh, Paris is my most favorite city in the world!!!
And I love the charme of Ilse St. Louis.

But from all the appartments you show, most French is appartment No.7 (which is just opposite Ils St. Louis).

You are right, if you go to a city where you do not want to be a tourist, you rent an appartment (or serviced appartment!). This could be in a city you have lived in before and want to feel a bit like home again.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I love the apartments. I guess I am a little jaded, but thought they could be a little more French. But then, what is really French? You do such a beautiful job with your blog. Thanks, Richard at www.myoldhistorichouse.blogspot.com

PS, sorry if there are duplicates of this post. Blogger has been giving me headaches trying to comment with my Wordpress OpenID and it doesn't look as if any of them are actually going through. I won't be offended if you don't post all eighty of the attempts (g).

  62. Joni these are all amazing. I'm going to save these links to my travel file. I use Homeaway.com and vacationrentals quite a bit because I always rent a house in Napa and look at it for overseas traveling. There is a great site for people on a budget called www.airbnb.com - it's geared towards people on a buget where you can rent a room from someone (some rent their house) not as glamourous but it came in handy for my boyfriend and I on a trip in October when all the hotels in Napa were sold out due to crush. We new we would only be in the room to sleep so we rented a room from someone. Turns out he was a private chef and the Uncle to Adam Lambert on American Idol. Just goes to show when you stay with someone the things you can learn. It's also great when your overseas to learn from the locals. However, the places you have shown are simply stunning and I'm afraid if I stayed in any of them I would never leave my hotel :)

  63. I loved this post!! My husband and I rented a gorgeous apartment in Paris for our honeymoon (versus staying in a hotel)...it made all the difference! We felt like we were living in Paris versus being tourists. We had local (not tourist spots) restaurants right around us and a patisserie across the street where we got breakfast each morning...it was a great way to visit Paris! Wish I had pictures of the apartment...Take care, Caroline

  71. Paris is always one to offer classical apartments, and one of the perfect examples is probably the third one. It’s just amazing how refined and sophisticated the place looks like. And although the fourth apartment is actually an old hotel, its tapestry is very beautiful that apartment owners can actually copy it in their homes to emulate the Parisian feel.
