COTE DE TEXAS: Julia Does Fall!

Julia Does Fall!

One of my favorite Instagram reads is

@JuliaBerolzheimer.  Whether you love fashion, travel, home decor, or gardening – Julia excels at it all, with her husband and two daughters, Marigold and Clementine at her side.   It’s always a family affair which makes the photos so much more adorable.

Her photos are always gorgeous, beautifully styled, and totally dreamy.  It’s impossible not to want to go to France after breezing through her pictures.  I know her husband used to be the photographer and I’m not sure if he still is – regardless, whomever is behind the camera is super talented.

I wrote about Julia and her house a few years ago

HERE and HERE

but since then she’s redecorated it and I know you shouldn’t be envious of Instagramers lives, but her house and garden is beyond:  it’s Charleston casual but in a chic way.

Here are a few photos of her newly redesigned house:

BEFORE:

Julia’s entry before.  I thought this was the cutest, the best!   Redecorate?  Why???

AFTER:  The floors are now painted like a set of botanicals that you would hang on the wall.  Genius.  There’s new paper on the walls.

Redecorate?  You bet!!!!   It’s fabulous!

New light fixture.

After:   A look at the Chippendale inspired staircase.

The previous banquette was recovered.

BEFORE:  The living room had her old pink velvet sofa recovered in taupe with fringe.  The room was nice, but it didn’t have a WOW factor.

AFTER:   Julia with Marigold and Clementine in the new living room with handpainted wallpaper.  It looks like the sofa was recovered with new legs.

Newly recovered slipper chairs.  All fabrics are Schumacher.  The curtains have a flouncy pleated trim.  It’s all more grown up but still magical with enough folly for a house with two young daughters.

BEFORE:  The dining room is on the other side of the living room.  Again, it was pretty and functional.  I hadn’t even thought she needed to redecorate, but boy, I was wrong!

AFTER:  New table with velvet chairs and an ethnic rug.  LOVE!!!!

Her decorator is:  @lilsemckenna on Instagram.  Check out her wonderful portfolio.

BEFORE:  The family room was small, with a screened in porch attached.  Julia enclosed the porch to make it a bigger room.  I do love the way it was decorated here.

After:   The newly enlarged room with back to back sofas and patterned rug.  LOVE!!!  The wallpaper was still to come when this photo was taken.

Another view of the double sided sofa.

Here is the wallpaper – painted grasscloth.  The panels hide storage AND a jib door!

BEFORE:  There was no pool in the back yard, but it was still beautiful with a courtyard for outdoor meals.

AFTER:  The pool is now surrounded by a darling set of outdoor furniture by Business & Pleasure that Julia is partnered with.  HERE

Recently, Julia has again teemed up with Pottery Barn for the fall.  As usual, the collection is all Julia.  It looks like she took every piece straight from her beautiful house.  HERE.

  3. I just started following her IG a few months ago. It's always beautiful. I cannot believe she redecorated because that was so pretty. But, the new decor is next level! Thank you for another great post. Sigh. If only I was Julia....

  4. To each his (or her) own. This is all just too precious for me.

    1. Agree. I wonder how the husband likes it.

    2. I agree completely. While it’s all very pretty, it looks like a showroom life to me. She is beautiful and seemingly lives a beautiful life, but nothing about it reads authentic or inspirational to me personally. To each her own. If it resonates with you, more power to you!

    3. Watching them for years, I can say without a doubt she is devoted to her family, her daughters and husband and mother, etc. This is a job. You see only what she wants you to see. It's a stage set.

  5. Do we have any idea what the foyer banquet fabric is? It's fabulous! Thanks for another fun post Joni!

    1. she said all fabrics are Schumacher. Not sure tho - you might try asking her designer. I do love that fabric, in fact I like all of them.

  6. Very interesting. It's all a BIG ADVERTISEMENT! Take away what you like. I'm sure it's a lot of work and expense for everyone. Hope they make a lot of money. Way beyond my sphere.

    1. It's ALL advertising, but you have to know where most influencers start. Small. Young. Like Julia, she had a love of fashion. It's taken at least ten years of hard work to reach her height. It's like a ballerina. Very few make it to the top. First you have to be a fantastic athlete. Be incredibly disciplined, be graceful but strong, be artistic, AND lastly - you have to have a ballerlina's body, lithe, but strong, feminine but with masculine strength. You can't be too tall or too short.
it's the same for most successful influencers. Julia has the looks, the body, and the artistic talent to make the big money. Most never do. It's hard work. There is an entire team behind Julia and her husband to juggle the work.

    2. I agree. Several years ago, I scrolled through 12 years of IG posts of hers. She was so lucky to get free trips, and items. She is indeed was one of the luckiest influencers. But she was working it all the time. Gorgeous photos take work. Traveling (even if to 5 star hotels) takes work. I have no doubt that the hand painted wall paper was gratis. Probably a lot in her home is. She creates a lovely dreamscape for other young couples to aspire to, much the the Ralph Lauren advertisements of the 70's and 80's. I wished I would have thought of it!

  7. Always love a "before and after" presentation, and like you, I thought the "Before's" were lovely, but I see how stepping up the dark/light contrast, in particularly the fabrics, brought interest. That is a clue that I can take away for my own home, so thanks again!!

  8. Love Julia! Didn’t realize she redecorated her gorgeous home. The changes are fabulous … it’s fun watching her evolve. And her new PB collab is full of wonderful things. xo

  12. Looked at this the other day and thought she's going more for the old world influence of Charlestown, away from breezy Coastal look. Not enthralled with the family room wallpaper. Hopefully it shows better when you're in the room. Do like the entry wall paper. And after coming back to look again, do agree with some further comments that it seems to be a big showroom for her products. Would love a pool like that in my yard.
